Room assignment changed

So we are paid in full on the June 27 Italy/ Greek Isles Magic tour. Checking the app last night ( looking for cancelled tastings ) I noticed our room assignment has changed. Looks like same room only up one deck but near an elevator. Do they change assignments without asking? I liked where we were. Confused.

Same thing happened to us on our June 25th Eastern Caribbean sailing on the Fantasy. We were booked in a Deluxe Ocean View with Verandah midship and were moved to a Deluxe Family Ocean View with Verandah aft. Same deck, just moved back some. Found out when we went on the app. My TA called about a week later to let us know that we were moved to a bigger stateroom and was wondering if we were ever notified by DCL. Nope, but not complaining. I'll take a bigger room!

Yeah, usually they do it either to balance out life boats or because they need a block of rooms for if they have to quarantine people. They also do it if something is broken in your room but that’s unlikely this far in advance. If you have a problem with the new room you can likely call and change it but it’s unlikely your original room will be an option.

Dang. I really like that bench set-up with the Navigators Verandah. Kinda irks me they would up and change it. Paying WAAAAYYYY too much not to have my choices.

Sounds like you got a visit from the Upgrade Fairy*. We got upgraded from a Deluxe Ocean view stateroom on Deck 2 on the Magic to a Verandah on Deck 7. Disney called our Travel Agent about 2 weeks before the cruise, to let us know since we already had our luggage tags with the old stateroom number.

* Been on these boards nearly 20 years. DIS board members used to celebrate an upgrade like yours, no matter how small. Now cruisers seem to prefer getting the room the booked. Times change.

That’s my question, is the same basic room but next to the elevator an upgrade?

Is the room category the same? If so, then there is no difference between the two rooms, meaning an "upgrade". If the category is higher, then it's an upgrade.

Same cruise as OP. We just noticed the same thing about a week ago. Same room location but on 6 instead of 5.

I've been on over 20 DCL cruises and never had my room moved or upgraded. Plus I've booked more than one room many times - not necessarily close to each other - and no upgrade or change.

If you were on Deck 2, they likely moved you because they use a section of that deck for quarantine.
