I'm just wondering how a non-member goes about doing this. Do you call the regular CRO number? At what point do the DVC resorts open up for cash ressies - for example, 6 months out from your date? I'd like to book BCV or BWV for approx Nov next year and I don't know if that will even be possible - but any info you can give is appreciated!

Thank you.

Don't know the answer to your question about how far out you can book cash ressies, but do think it's supposed to be outrageously expensive to do so. You might do better off renting points from someone, although that might be difficult for the time of year you're going, as it's one of the most popular times for DVC-ers. Have you thought at all about actually joining DVC? Or did you just want to try it for this one trip?

Also, where in scenic NC are you? I would guess from your description that you're up in the mountains? :D

Thanks for the reply. Actually I am trying to convince my DH that we need to be DVC members. We just got back from WDW yesterday and I couldn't convince him to go to the open house with me as he's thinking that the sales people might be high pressure and he's a guy that really takes his time to analyze and decide. Anyway he asked me why we don't just stay at one of the DVC resorts next time to try it out and I thought that sounded good to me! I realize cash ressies are expensive but I have to admit I'm a little timid about renting points - I'm going to check into that but someone with points wouldn't be able to reserve until 11 mos out at their resort right? I was thinking about a four or five night stay mid November next year.

Moved here a few years ago from the greater Los Angeles area. I LOVE the carolinas :) I think it's just a beautiful, family oriented place!

Take care.

If you rent points from someone, you can't book via that person at their home resort until 11 months prior to your anticipated departure date.

For cash reservations, just call CRO. In fact, if you have dates in mind, there's nothing wrong with calling them now. If they don't have availability yet for next November, they can at least give you an idea about when to call back. They may have some availability now, with more rooms opening up as we get closer in time.

Once a DVC resort is sold out, most reservations are available only to members at the resort. If a member chooses to exchange to a different location, the freed up room will be available for a cash reservation thru CRO to non-members.

Any rooms unreserved by members 60 days prior are also released to CRO for cash reservations, so there are certainly opportunities for non-members to make reservations at DVC resorts.

There are usually NOT any rooms available far in advance for many dates, but as Firefighter Mickey suggested- a call to CRO might shed some light on when you can call to reserve. Renting from a member is also a possibility.

Enjoy!

Just FYI:

The DVC Presentation at WDW is *absolutely*, *positively* ZERO pressure - extremely informative, friendly - they will answer any and all questions in a straightforward manner, and will not put any pressure on you to commit or join. We went to it on the last day of our vacation (we had been putting it off the entire trip because, as with you guys, we had very negative images of what such a 'sales presentation' would be like, but the last day it started to rain and we figured 'what the heck', and MAN, are we glad we did!) :D

As far as getting in on cash ressies or renting points, November is going to be tough. Late October would probably be easier, but November and early December are some of the absolute busiest DVC times of year - very low points per night, holiday decorations up, mild weather. It's kind of funny to get used to, but 'slow' times at Disney World are not necessarily 'slow' times at DVC - in fact they can be some of the busiest.

I take it that you won't be making any other WDW trips between now and next November? Just in case you were, you might give the DVC presentation a try.

Please let us know if you have *any* questions about DVC or how it works. Use this board to your advantage! :D

The information helps a lot, gives me an idea of how it works and what I can expect. I did call CRO and the CM gave me a vague answer but did say that I wouldn't find anything until much closer to the date I'm looking for. So I guess I 'll call closer to that time and maybe have another resort ressie as a backup.

JonHM - I didn't realize that busy times at DVC don't really match up with the general public so that's really interesting to know. Late Oct might work. We aren't planning on going sooner as we decided to let my toddler get a little bigger before going back, usually we go about once a year to WDW. Also I'm glad to hear that the DVC presentation in not high pressure - that's a nice thing.

I will be asking questions and reading posts on this board. I'm so new to this all - thanks so much for all the help. I really appreciate it :)

Have a good day!

is a great time to go, and Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party is supposed to be loads of fun. Just out of curiosity, how old is your toddler? We brought our then 19 month old in January, and I have to say that I was *shocked* at what a good time he had. I thought he would generally have a good time, but he went NUTS! And now he points at anything anywhere that has Mickey Mouse on it and gets all excited!

Hi JonHM,

That does sound like it would be fun for kids. They are so cute, aren't they? It's so sweet to see Disney World through their eyes.

We had a great trip last week (went in April last year also) but have decided that a little cooler time of year would probably be better for this family. We are all the fair skinned, light eyed, burns easily types :) We pretty much avoid Florida in the May-Sept time frame.

My DD is 20 months now and she loved WDW, as does my 5 year old DS. My son's first trip to WDW was when he was about 3 1/2, we went just after Thanksgiving when the Christmas decorations were up and it was really nice and he was easier to travel with by then. So - I was thinking that'd be a great time for our next trip, about that time of year and DD would also be over 3 . . . But who knows, maybe I can talk DH into a short trip and do the DVC presentation then.

Thanks very much!
