I know, rookie question..........I haven't been to WDW in 7 years, and my memory is fading.........Does everyone that goes to MK ride the monorail??? We'll be going in late April, our boys first trip (5 & 2), and the 5yr old has seen monorail pictures and thinks it's the coolest.............

From what I remember, does everyone park in the huge parking lot and then ride the monorail to MK, or did I dream that????

Also, If we arriving off-season (last week in April, hopefully the Spring Breakers will be gone by then), and want to be at MK when it opens, staying off-site, what time should we get there.
thanks all

You park in one big lot where you catch a tram. The tram drops you aff at the Ticket and transportation centre where you will have the choice of taking the monorail or the ferryboat to the Mk. Half and half ride each. We like to ride the monorail over and ferryboat back at night.

Allow at least 20-minutes to half hour from parking lot to Mk.

You can either drive to MK, take the monorail from the resorts or transportation station, or ferryboat. We went the last week of April 05 and there were two states on Spring Break(NY, NJ) plus some Grad Nights on the weekends. Not bad, just more of a crowd than I had expected. I have no idea what time the parks open for sure, but it should be posted on the WDW website, allears, and at the DIS. They are up for 6 mos out. Have a magical trip! :wizard:

Remember to ask a Monorail CM if you & your family can ride up front with the driver--you may have to sit out a train, but it will be worth it-
I would advise not telling the children, just in case it's not a possibility at that time-
some of the drivers are chatty, some won't speak a word--we had him March '05! :rotfl2: --you may get a certificate(we didn't get one from Mr Chatty! :upsidedow ) at any rate that ride is A-1

thanks guys!!

Sitting up front is a great idea...........especially if I get there early enough, hopefully there won't be several other families waiting to sit up front. Do you know how many the front holds???

The monorail tends to be "not a big deal" for some adults..........but in a 5 & 2 yr olds eyes, it's really a neat way to travel!!

We think the monorail is cool too! Like another poster suggested, make sure to ask the 'pilot' if you can ride in the front. Your kids will love it! I'd say maybe 6 people max could fit in the front but I'm not sure about that.

And just some info for you. There are 3 monorail loops:

#1-"Resort Monorail"
Travels in a clockwise direction around Seven Seas Lagoon
Stops: Ticket & Transportation Center, Polynesian Resort, Grand Floridian Resort, Magic Kingdom, Contemporary Resort

#2-"Express Monorail"
Travels in a counter-clockwise direction around Seven Seas Lagoon
Stops: Ticket & Transportation Center and Magic Kingdom

#3-"EPCOT Monorail"
Travels between Ticket & Transportation Center and EPCOT

Have fun on your trip!

The front car in the monorail holds 4 people plus the driver

Sitting up front is cool! DS loves it, we ask everytime we go, we've been known to wait for 3 or 4 trains so he can sit up front. If there is too big of a crowd we tell him not today! We also take the monorail for fun sometimes , DS loves it and it's a nice way to spend an hour LOL

If you ride the bus from your resort you do not ride the monorail or ferry boat - the bus stop is right near the front gate of MK.

You can either drive to MK
Technically, you don't drive to the MK. You drive to the TTC and then catch the ferry or the monorail to the MK. Or if you're staying at a non-monorail resort you can take a bus to the MK in which case you bypass the TTC and get dropped off near MK's front gate.

I know the OP meant does everyone that goes to MK HAVE to ride the monorail but I wonder what the answer is too her literal question. Does everyone that goes to MK ride the monorail?

Except for those that go multiple times in a year, my guess is nearly everyone does. When I was a kid and we stayed offsite (in the pre-Epcot days), we would ride the ferry in from the TTC and the monorail out. Now that I'm taking my own kids, we ride the busses to the front gate of MK from our resort but we still find a reason (even if it's purely for fun) to ride the monorail every time we're at WDW.

How about you? Do you and/or your family ride the monorail every time you're at WDW? If you come through the TTC, do you always choose the monorail?
