Rooftop TV antennas

Does anyone still use these? DH & I drove into Oakland last night & I was so surprised to see roofs with antennas on top. I figured that everyone had gone to cable or dish. I grew up in Oakland & we had great TV reception - the towers were along the Bay. DH grew up inland (near where we are now) & they had a cable TV service in the late '60's. TV antennas anyone?

Not too many in my suburb but they are all over East Texas. We have satellite at that house but most people have those antennas.

Banned by deed restrictions in our neighborhood.

We do....several years ago (probably 6) we had the only cable tv system available in our area and it would never fail, whenever we wanted to watch something really bad, the cable would go out and we'd be left watching fuss. DH even had to resort to listening the one of the Bulls playoff games on the radio. He had enough and went out and bought the biggest antenna he could find so that he could put it up, install an a/b switch and watch at least local tv when the cable went out.

Cable has improved tremendously in our area - new provider. The antenna is still up there...I suppose when we have the roof redone it will come done. But in the meantime, it's an eyesore.

I'm thinking that most of the antennas that we saw are not in use. We were driving through an old part of the city & I can well remember my neighborhood growing up - that was the only way to get TV reception. Just a look at yesteryear!

TV antennas are SO ugly. We have one in our attic that we used until we got cable. When the cable goes out we sometimes hook it back up. It actually has better reception of the local stations than the cable does.

We still have a TV antenna tower. We are in a rural area where there was no cable when we moved in so we had a tower put up. The rotor doesn't work anymore so we have cable now but still haven't had the tower taken down.
