Has anyone done Rome & La Costa Bella? We're heading there in June. Can you give me any tips, ideas, etc.? This is our first ABD - we're really looking forward to it.

Thanks for any info. :)

Hi!
My family and I will be going in June as well. What dates will you be there? Having been looking forward to this trip for awhile and now it is almost here!

We'll be going the last week of June into the first week of July. When will you be there? Have you done any ABD before?

We'll be there June14-20, so will just miss you. We have not done ABD before, but are very excited! There will be three generations traveling, so we thought this would be the best way to go. Did a Disney cruise three years ago and thought it was just great!

I did this trip back in May 2007. Absolutely fantastic! I'm sure some little bits and pieces have changed since then. Bring your swimsuit and go for a dip during the boat tour of Capri. The most amazing experience I've ever had. Don't miss out on it (only 1/3 of our tour group took a dip)!!

Drink "Lemon Soda" every chance you get... I was fully addicted to the stuff and can't find it anywhere in the U.S.! Eat a cannoli (I had mine in Positano). Eat gelato every single chance you get. It's extremely difficult to find anything nearly as good in the U.S. (though, thankfully, a new place opened near me that's 99% as good). Wear comfy walking shoes... much walking through Rome and Sorrento.

Oh gosh... everything about the trip was wonderful. If they put you up at the Hilton Sorrento, be sure to have your breakfast on the terrace, if there's room. You'll feel like a rock star out there, dining in the sunshine, overlooking the Bay of Naples.

I wish I could go back. I think I'd like to move to Capri and get a job driving an electric cart, delivering tourists luggage to the hotels. I could think of worse places to spend my life...

You'll love the trip and you'll love the Amalfi coast. Have fun!!

We have done the cruises several times and love them but we're looking for something different. Also waiting for expanded cruise itineraries (other than Med). Would love to see Hawaii but it looks like the new ships will be docked at Port Canaveral.

Sounds great - I can't wait. I have a friend who has been to Capri and talks about how beautiful it is. When you say comfy shoes, did you wear a comfy sandal or more of a sneaker? I think it'll be pretty warm in June/July and wonder if I'd be better off something an open, comfortable sandal. Did you carry a backpack or a tote? Were you concerned about pick-pockets?

I wore tennis shoes. Wear whatever you'll be comfortable in, that won't cause you problems when walking on cobbled, uneven roadways. I only carried a small purse that's designed for safety when traveling. I wasn't too concerned about pickpockets, but I did keep my wits about me at all times, just to be sure. You don't need to panic too much. Just be aware, particularly when you're in an area that's crowded, like the Trevi Fountain.

Magix - What did you do during your "free time" on the trip? Did you go a day early? Thanks.

I did not go a day early. A few people on our trip stayed a day late and went back to Rome (mostly to see more of the Vatican).

I traveled with 3 friends (2 of whom I met on my previous ABD trip) and we spent our spare time walking around the city we were in. In Rome, we had a free evening, so we walked around the corner and had dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe (how awful of us!!), then went down the street a bit and had amazing gelato and took a look through a bookstore. In Sorrento, we went shopping in town (and had more gelato). There was a small bit of free time on Capri, which we used to take a walk to an overlook closer to the Farraglioni Rocks (yes, there was also time for gelato). I think there was a bit of free time in both Positano and Amalfi, but it was basically just time for a quick bite to eat, a small bit of shopping and (surprise) a gelato.

We are going in July as a 25th anniversary and son's college graduation celebration!! :cool1: We know it will be hot but we always travel in the summer.

I hope to pack sensibly--a task I usually fail. ;) Anyone have suggestions on attire? We were thinking sun dresses for at night--for the ladies. I know the guys need long pants for the Vatican, but what about in the evening for dinner?

We have two rooms booked because we have the 22 year old soon to be graduate and a 12 year old daughter. Has anyone traveled with a family? How did they do the rooms? How is the hotel in Rome?

We would love to hear from anyone who has done an ABD before. This is our first after many Disney trips stateside.:)

Looking forward to reading your report (but I'm at work right now)! Thanks for putting the link out there (again)!

I'd be curious to hear about the room situation too - we're doing 2 rooms; my daughters are 18 & 17 (at time of travel) and the ABD Reservation Agent told us to do 2 because the rooms are small and the overall price would be the same for 1 v 2 rooms. Not to mention, 2 bathrooms would be helpful.

When we did Imperial Cities, we booked a double and a triple, and they were connecting in all three hotels. It was really great. I know that some of the families with us on Viva had little apartment-type rooms that were just lovely!
