We are going to book a tour with Rome in Limo for this summer. We are looking at the Pompeii, Sorrento, Positano tour.
The payment is only accepted in cash or TC. For anyone who has used them, which payment method did you find easiest . I think I would worry carrying that much cash around.
Also did you get a guide for Pompeii through them? How much did they charge?
Thanks.

When do you pay them? At the beginning or end of the tour? Personally, I would probably use traveller's checks because pick pocketing can be an issue in the cities of Italy.

As for Pompei, I would recommend getting these electric wand things they have. If I remember correctly for 10 euro or so you could rent this wand type thing. You pressed in certain numbers (signs and the maps told you what to press where) and a voice came on and told you all about what you were looking at. The are much cheaper than guided tours and you get to move at your own pace and see what you want to see.

We just used Rome in Limo for Naples and Rome. They were fabulous - can't speak highly enough of the drivers. We paid in cash at the end...my husband carried it safely enough in a interior pant pocket zippered shut.

We did use a guide in Pompeii, Maria, booked through Rome in Limo and highly recommend her. Pompeii is huge and depending on when you're there - it can be very crowded. We went at our own pace but she made sure we saw so much. She really pointed out and explained much more than would have been possible on our own. Since we only had one day for the whole region, I didn't want to spend hours wandering around Pompeii. I want to say the fee was 100 euro, but I'm not sure. They'll give you a quote.

We used them in Rome, and paid the driver in cash at the end of the day. The tour was amazing, I highly recommend their service! Roberto took us to buy our tickets to the Coliseum from a booth a few blocks away that had no line!! We breezed right past all the people standing in the huge line at the Coliseum and went right in. He also knew a fantastic little restaurant for lunch that was near the Forum but away from the touristy places. The food was amazing.

We used RomeinLimo in Naples and we did the same itinerary you are doing. I bought a money belt at Target for $7 and it was the best purchase. I kept the cash in there and paid at the end.

Our driver was Tony and he was so freindly and accomodating to us, I would highly recommend him. He arranged for us to have a guide in Pompeii for 100 Euros. This was money very well spent, as Pompeii is unbelievably huge and also crowded. Our guide was Enzo, he bought our tickets with no wait and made sure we saw the highlights of the City. I can't imagine walking around the place by ourselves I dont think we would have gotten anything out of it. Sorrento and Positano are amazing, almost too beautiful to believe and the food was great. This was my kids' favorite stop on the cruise. Have fun! Karyn

We had an awful time with traveler's checks - no one wanted to cash them, we couldn't find a bank that would do it, and we spent way too much time trying to get this done. Finally we let the hotel cash them (so we could give the money as tips to our guides, who we learned didn't like TC) and wound up paying a hefty change fee. Stick with cash if you can, imho.

Thanks everyone. I think we will stick to cash.
