We are doing a Celebrity cruise leaving from/returning to Civitavecchia. We will be staying in Rome for a couple of days before and after. Any recommendations for private transportation to/from the port? I know you can do the train, but we would prefer a private transfer. It looks like Celebrity currently only offers a shore excursion for transport, but we don't want to do the excursion. Thanks

We used his services many years ago, but a quick look at his current reviews seems to confirm that Stefano's RomeCabs is still a solid recommandation for a transfer to Civitavecchia.

We used Rome Cabs (https://www.romecabs.com/). It was $150 each way, for four of us. That didn't seem bad given the long drive. They were really great to work with. We used them three times on the trip and they were always on time with easy to follow instructions. The drivers were friendly. The one that took us into Rome from the airport was practically a tour guide too - gave us a pretty good history of Rome and pointed out various sites as we made our way to the hotel. The drivers to and from the port were great too.

Have you been to Rome before? I have a few restaurants that we loved that I could post.

P.S. If you haven't been before, don't miss St. Peter's Basilica. That was the surprise tourist site for me that blew me away. I have zero expectations for it and it turned out to be one of my favorite sites. And so many little basilicas with masterpieces just on display for anyone to see for free. An unbelievable city. Man I loved that trip. I hope you have a blast!

Added: Many took the trains out to the port too. You do risk strikes or the like, and the walk from the train to the ship seemed long. But it is easy to do from what I understood from our group. For me, it was worth the extra money to have door to door service and no stress about getting to and from the port.

We took the train and loved it. Cheap, clean, safe and a good way to soak up some local culture.

We have been to Rome before, several years ago, I think for a week. We saw a lot. However, restaurants change frequently, so I would appreciate any recommendations.

Thank you

Following along…
We will be at Rome at disembarkation day only, we fly back next day… so I’m looking for alternatives of doing some of the must-dos… would you do the hop on/off bus; the tuk tuk tours; or private car to go around.
Thanks!

Ps. Walking tours would be difficult as we have a 6yr and a 72yr in the party.

I highly recommend ROME CHAUFFEUR

our flight was delayed 90 minutes and the guy waited for us, helped with cases, gave us drinks in the car, top of the range car too. Had our two car Seats for twins all ready too

check them out they were brilliant on both journeys

I think my wife booked ours through VIATOR. They picked us up from our VRBO in the center of Rome and drove us straight out to the drop-off right next to the cruise terminal.

Try to make your drop-off time as close to your check-in as possible. The cruise terminal is very bare-bones basic and not much of anything there. Hopefully, they are done with the pre-cruise testing. The contractor they had last year wasn't very efficient with updating results, so there was a waiting hall that was loaded with thousands of guests who had nothing to do but wait.

This is for Celebrity. They are not doing testing for anyone anywhere now. I need to check, but I think since we are staying in a suite, we don't get a checkin time like Disney. Thanks

Correct, suites can arrive whenever.

And Celebrity is still testing on limited itineraries.
Galapagos Itineraries
Australia New Zealand Itineraries
Transatlantic/Transpacific Crossings
Select Caribbean Itineraries (those visiting Turks & Caicos)
Select Central and South America Itineraries (those visiting Colombia, Brazil, and Chile)

We didn't actually end up using him because it was for our cancelled June 2020 cruise, but we had booked Nicola Rome Transfer for our Greek Isles cruise. While we didn't experience an actual transfer with him, his communication was great, dealing with the cancellation was seamless, and his reviews elsewhere online were really solid: http://www.nicolarometransfer.com/

That's who we used both from the Airport to Hotel, and from Hotel to Port. Nothing but great experiences with them!
