Hi!

We just got back from WDW (our first trip!!) and we are already planning another visit!! We found that those romantic, quiet moments were few and far between the excited, kid-centered moments - and this is what my dh did to warm my heart at WDW.

We were strolling in DTD at night (THE best!) and the kids were both asleep in the stroller. My husband and I walked past the Japanese Pearl booth and he called me back to it. He was picking me out a pearl! He picked the gnarliest one, did the little "tappy" thing the lady instructed and presented me with a big FAT kinda pink pearl! :lovestruc Wow! He's not the sentimental kinda guy, either. He got it in a little bag, and is getting a ring or pendant with it here in Canada - its almost our anniversary (6 years!) and I know he'll give it to me then.

And it took only about 7-10 minutes, cost $20-ish and I will remember it forever!!

Guys, do this for your wife/girlfriend, etc, and she will be impressed. I was! ;)

How cute!!!

When you're there on your next trip, do the pick a pearl in Japan at Epcot! It's around $15.00 and it's so much fun!

That's awesome you got a pink pearl! I got a silver pearl in Japan! :)

Awww, that's terrific you are so lucky. I think if they gave my husband a pearl for FREE he still wouldn't give it to me :lmao:

I love pearls. My husband gave me Mickey pearl earrings while we were in Disney for our honeymoon. I've never seen this cart but will keep an eye out for it when we are there this December.

My DH and I have been doing the pick a pearl in Japan at EPCOT since our 2003 anniversary trip. My first time picking one I got twins...I had 2 necklaces made for me and DD. Every year we go there and pick them with the kids. DD and her bestfriend both have gotten pretty dark grey ones!! I have never gotten the grey one, but last year I got an 8 1/4mm yellowish one. I brought it home to my jeweler and had a loop put on it then strung it through my diamond circle necklace. I have gotten so many compliments on it. And the guys at the jewelry store love the way it turned out. One of the ladies that work there still compliments me on it. We have so many that we have done, but hadn't done anything with them. We had decided we were going to make them into a necklace for our DD 16th birthday, but the jeweler said that since it has been so long they might crack now. So if you are thinking about stringing them, have them drilled there or as soon as you get home. It is so much fun to do. When you get twins, a really big one, or the grey ones they make a big deal out of it by banging on the drums there. I recommend this for everyone to do!!

How fabulous for you!!

And thanks for the tip. I didn't know they had pick a pearl there.

They have one in Japan, DTD, outside the pool area between Yacht and Beach Club and one at Typhoon Lagoon. I like the one at Japan the best. They also have a large selection of things to set them in.

I'm glad I read this thread.:goodvibes I was looking for a special idea for my trip in Dec with DD21. This will be a girls only trip for us. We can go to Japan and she can pick a pearl then have it set in a piece of jewelery. Thanks for the tip. :)

What sweet memory! I have added this to my "must do list" for Disney prior to our DCL cruise the first week of December.::MickeyMo

I picked my oyster. I was very excited. My $18 pearl was worth $85 according to the lady at the store. However, that's where the excitement ended. The lady was very rude and pushy. She kept trying to sell me very overpriced settings for the pearl. I tried to tell her I wanted to take it to my jeweler to have it added to a necklace I already had. She told me that I couldn't do that. (Which my jeweler told me I could.) After refusing several times to let her push a setting on me, she tried to sell me a cheaper setting. I argued with her for 20 minutes. I was about to tell her to keep the pearl with a not so Mickey happy phrase. Finally she put the pearl in a bag, let me pay, and leave. She must have cursed my pearl. I last saw it when I packed my bag to come home and I haven't seen it since.

Well, that's a bummer. I hope you remembered her name and write a note to someone about her. Way to ruin a really fun thing, lady! :headache:
