My husband and I are planning on taking our honeymoon this November to celebrate our 1 year anniversary. We were thinking of staying in the PO French Quarter since it's moderately priced (we're young and poor) and romantic looking.

Has anyone stayed there before? Where is an ideal room?

How about any other romantic places to stay or go, or romantic things to do at Disney??

Also, is it really worth staying on the Disney property--does it make the entire experience better?

Thanks!!!

THE HONEYMOONER:

first off; congratualtions on recent marriage....

My first thought was to tell you POFQ...dw, dd, and myself stayed there over easter break 2003 and loved it..this is a cozy resort where you're never far from anything, nomatter where your room is located....If I remember correctly, we were in building #4 which was up front, very close to the bus stop, parking lot, and the food court/lobby(those are the things that are most important to us since dw had MS). we were only about 1-2 minute walk to the pool area....now the bad news: the resort was closing for rehab the week after we stayed there...we were told it would be closed approximentaly 2 years....so, it may not be reopened yet during your trip....you might want to CRS to find out if it will be reopened in time for your trip.....
My 2nd choice would be CBR: very romantic!!! best area to request IMO would be Martinique(building 24,25, 0r 26)....closest to Old Port Royale, the main themed pool, parrot cay and the bus stops...also, each Island has its own quiet pool as well...CBR is a beutiful resort with the buildings painted in pastels and the flowers are great too....
We also enjoyed CSR though I'm not too sure many people would find it all that romantic.....

As far as the question is it worth to stay on property? That's a matter of personal choice, but, for our family, there is no question at all...It is definately worth it to us!!! the whole disney magic thing comes to mind, but, even more important to us is the disney transportation system as well as EMH and being close to the resort at the end of the day is awesome....we have tried to stay off-site before and it just didn't feel the same for us...different strokes for different folks: maybe try it both ways and judge for yourselves....

hope I've been able to help out a little...good luck and have a great trip!!

Well to start there's a pretty good chance that the FQ still won't be open.

Here's my opinion: if the FQ is open do NOT hesitate to stay there. If it's not, stay at PORiverside! My fiance and I went in August b/c of the FTP and we LOVED POR!!! It was very romantic. Check out the POR thread for things to do once your there.

From what I understand the FQ is preferred if you like the mardi gras atmosphere which I would love to try. POR is a little more low key but they're very comprable.

I can't stress home much we loved this resort!

As for staying onsite, if you can afford it, you have to try it. The August trip was my first and I loved taking the buses and meeting other people. We never waited long (with the exception of the night we went to pleasure island and left and 11pm, which is when DTD closes so by the time the bus got to PI it was full, but that was bad timing on our part)

And you have to go to the adventurers club in pleasure island. It's the best!

PM me for more info if you want!

Caribbean Beach Resort is VERY romantic :lovestruc Soft, white sandy beaches....hammocks for 2....lush tropical plants...beautiful pastel-colored buildings....flowers everywhere... and the Epcot fireworks, viewable from the Martinique beach, Trinidad North beach, and the main pool bar area. VERY, VERY romantic for a "honeymooning" couple :bride: :groom:

My boyfriend and I stayed at POR twice and LOVED it. It is very romantic, especially walking around the river at night. They also have a fountain that is really nice. I've never stayed at FQ, but I'm sure its equally nice.
Worth it? YES. It's so convenient to just hop on the bus and go, plus you can always get back to the hotel for a midday swim or nap.
Romantic things to do?
Well...we tend to find romance in simplicity.
Some of our favorite things were ordering pizza in the room and drinking champagne after a long hard disney day!
We also LOVED the boats, they were so nice to just sit and relax on, we take turns driving. The scenery is absolutly beautiful.
I'd advise going for a walk on the Boardwalk, watching alll the fireworks (with popcorn!), taking a LOT of pictures.
While these may not sound like the most romantic things in the world, they created some of the best memories I have.
If you're looking for something a bit more, try the Grand Floridian spa for a day, or a romantic dinner at the Castle or (my fav. Le Cellier).

I was also thinkin POFQ but not sure if the rehab will be done.

I've never stayed at CSR but the other 3 moderates are all great IMO. I really think you can't go wrong with any of the 3 but I really love POR. It's very beautifully landscaped. I'd stay in the mansions for a romantic feel. I think they have carriage rides, that's romantic. :D Also the quite pools are very nice.

I recommend Port Orleans Riverside in the Mansions section. You can pretend you are Scarlett and Rhett :o

They have a carriage ride at POR. You can "catch it" out on the patio behind the check in area. You can also make PSs by calling the WDW-PLAY number.

Also, take the boat from POR to DTD. It is very romantic at night.

That's all the romantic suggestions I have as we usually have 2 rugrats tagging along ...

Congratulations! DH and I went to WDW for our honeymoon, too!

We have stayed at both POFQ and CBR. At POFQ the spa is in a cozy area, and the boat ride to DTD is so nice at night. Also, the Jazz/Mardi Gras feel to the resort is neat. CBR was where we spent our honeymoon. We had a King room, in Jamaica 45. It was wonderful, too. There are hammocks for 2 on the beaches there...that was romantic! There is also a "sit down" restaurant at CBR, but there was only a food court at POFQ the last time I was there. The first time I stayed there, they had a nice full service restaurant, but it had closed. I believe it was called Bonfamilles?

My opinion is, if POFQ is open, stay there, if not, CBR!!!

Also, I believe there is a huge difference in a person's experience at WDW if they are staying on site, or not on site. I don't mean their day at the park, I mean from the time they arrive in Orlando, to the time they leave. When we go to WDW, we like to stay at WDW. I have stayed offsite before, but prefer not to. Some day we might go to Orlando and see some of the other things they have there, and we will probably stay offsite then. Maybe, some day. But if you can, I would say stay at WDW.

And again, congratulations!!!
