Hi guys!
DH and I are going to be able to get away ALONE for his birthday weekend, June 26th. We can't spend too much money but, want to stay someplace nice. Maybe a B&B. We have gone to Cape May NJ and loved it. We stood at the Mainstay Inn and it was perfect. We do want to try someplace else. Even if we go to Cape May again, we would like to try a different place. Any suggestions or favorite places? Maybe in Conn., Mass, or NJ. We live in NY and we don't want to go past Mass. or Penn. Thanks for any suggestions!!

Newport RI? or cape Cod MA....around Chatham and that area would be most romantic

Boston can be very nice. You can eat at some great places and take a romantic carriage ride around the city in a horse drawn buggy at Quincy Marketplace.

I think you'd enjoy it.

Another less crowded alternative to Boston is Salem, MA. Lot's of history (the whole witch trial thing and there is tons of sea and naval history).

The opportunities abound everywhere in NE - I think its one of the most romantic areas outside of Savannah Georgia - but that being said, here are my favorite romantic places to go for an adults only night:

http://www.castlehillinn.com/ - Newport, RI

http://www.redlioninn.com/ - Stockbridge, MA (The Berkshires, home of Tanglewood, the Boston Symphony Orchestra's summer home and outdoor ampitheater and summer stock theater)

http://www.ogunquit.org/ - home page of Ogunquit, Maine where you can find lodging info too.

Another great place for NY'ers to go to and spend some romantic time is New Haven, CT and the coastal area towards Mystic - I can't recall the name of the resort we stayed in there for a wedding but it was beautiful and right on the water.

I love going to the Charles Hotel in Cambridge on the romance package. Spend the day roaming around Harvard Square, visit the Fogg museum, walk along the Charles, come back and have a glass of champagne, dress up and have dinner at Rialto (get the duck...it is awesome), listen to Jazz at Regattabar. The next day take a subway ride into Boston and have brunch, walk around the city, take a swan boat ride or visit a museum.

Thanks for the ideas so far!! We have been to Salem, Mass and we checked the Hawthorn Inn but it is booked for that weekend. My mom recently stayed at the Castlehill inn in RI but, the prices for a room are really high. Anyone know a nice place to stay in Boston or Cape Cod? We have gone to Boston, but just for 2 day trips when we were at Salem. Also we have no idea where to stay if we went to Cape Cod or Martha's vinyard. We like to go shopping in small towns, antique stores and such.
TIA for any more ideas!!

We only have 2 nights. My mom can't take the kids any longer than that LOL!! They are 6yo and 14mo, and my sister is 12yo so, she can help my mom alittle. I just haven't considered Maine because I thought it was too far. How far is it anyway?

The Charles Hotel in Cambridge is nice and the Omni Parker House in downtown Boston is in the center of it all.

I don't know much about Maine, but the White Mountain area of NH is gorgeous.

I've always liked the coastal area of CT...Old Saybrook, Mystic...all along the water there is very nice. There are some shopping outlets in Clinton and Westbrook, Mystic Seaport in Mystic, the casinos are up there. There's a lot to do in that area, it's very quaint and picturesque, not terribly far from NY.

So MANY choices.

Another good one...the Berkshires. MassMoCA, Tanglewood, hiking, and Williams College campus and their museums...

Porches Inn is hip and right by the MassMoCA...but lots of other more traditionally romantic inns are around too. (Don't tell all your friends about MassMoCA...it's a personal fave and I'd hate to see it overrun...not that it isn't already.;))

Well since you now bring up that you have a budget let me point out that you are trying to vacation in the summer months on a weekend in New England - not exactly a cheap time and a lot of the inns have three day minimums.

Sorry, I just was throwing out there some of the best inns - they are going to be expensive.

My husband and I spend as many anniversaries as we can out in Rhinebeck, NY at the Beekman Arms hotel - it has an amazing restaurant and the inn - their site says that they have a two night minimum so that's good. It also should not be a huge drive for you to get to. They have fireplace rooms with huge canopy beds - its is incredibly romantic and one of our favorite places to go to that we stumbled on quite accidentally.

Their web site isn't working right now but its: http://www.beekmanarms.com/
You can use this link to see a little about it until the site comes back up. http://www.iloveinns.com/bed_and_breakfasts/new_york/beekmanarmsdelamaterhouse.htm

Here's a good website to go to and I have linked the page about Rhinebeck:

I'll bet you're talking about the Water's Edge in Westbrook. It is very romantic and they have a beautiful restaurant. There are so many B&B's in Connecticut that I love, but, I recommend the Bee & Thistle Inn in Old Lyme. For fun you can hop over to Essex and take the Essex steam train ride to the Connecticut River riverboat and have a lovely cruise in the afternoon. Here is their website http://www.beeandthistleinn.com/ . They have a fabulous restaurant too and are regularly voted the "BEST FOR OVERALL EXCELLENCE" and the "MOST ROMANTIC" place to dine in the state of Connecticut by the readers of Connecticut Magazine in their annual Reader's Choice Poll.

Shhh, everyone about the Berkshires - We have too many NY'rs already!

I think that is a great place to go to too, but make sure the inn doesn't have three day minimums - Tanglewood doesn't start until July so they may still be lax about the nights in June.
