Romantic but not too pretentious?

I am trying to figure out where to send my parents so they can have a nice, possibly romantic, evening out by themselves, but I need some help...
Guidelines:
1) They would not like to go to a place that's overly pretentious
2) Can't just serve seafood (my mom is allergic)
3) My step-father is pretty much a steak and chicken kind of guy
What would your suggestions be?

I would suggest Citricos. I had an amazing filet there and it's a more upscale, mostly adult atmosphere that we felt was romantic. Course, I think the GF is romantic in itself so it was great going to dinner there.

I would suggest Yachtsman Steakhouse. We've been there on many trips and have had wonderful meals.

Underated, fairly quiet, tables not on top of each other -- Kona at Polynesian. Maybe not as fancy as the others listed but believe it or not ... my favorite place. We ate there twice IN A ROW!!! Delicious steak and the menu should meet your mom's requirements too. At least worth a try sometime. :thumbsup2

Boma at AKL. Our favorite. DH is a plain meat & potato man. I like a variety. The food is wonderful and the atmosphere is fantastic.

Hands down ... Jiko

What meat and potatoes man wouldn't love this:

Wood-Grilled Pork Tenderloin - with sweet potato dumplings and mushroom ragout

or this

Tamarind Braised Beef Short Ribs with Idaho and Sweet Potato Gratin, and Tamarind-Onion-Garlic Sauce

or this

Wood-Grilled Filet Mignon - with macaroni and cheese and red wine sauce

Here's the rest of a sample menu:

After an amazing dinner, your parents can curl up by the fire pits (outside or inside the hotel) and check out the animals using night-vision goggles.

Delicious, romantic, but not pretentious evening

Artist Point or Citricos fit the bill. Jiko is close, but might be too adventurous for your step-father. All three serve excellent food, provide superior service, and foster a more sophisticated but relatively unpretentious atmosphere. Yachtsman Steakhouse is also good, but not quite as sophisticated IMHO. California Grill, Flying Fish and Narcoossee are all way too frenetic and noisy to qualify.

DH and I are not fancy restaurant people and we had a wonderful anniversary dinner at Artist Point. We had a fairly late seating and the restaurant wasn't crowded at all, the service was great and my strictly meat and potatoes DH loved the pork chop with mac-n-cheese.

Thank you all so much! I printed menus of the restaurants you've suggested, so we'll see which one they pick! Thanks again!

One that isnt mentioned above is Blue Zoo - i had one of my best meals ever there! I had a fabulous waiter, wonderful food and a fabulous atmosphere with out being stuffy!

I agree that BlueZoo is fantastic & has a wonderful atmosphere with great service. It's our favorite WDW restaurant. I was hesitant to list it because the OP stated her Mom had seafood allergies.

And it holds the distinction of being the only table-service restaurant at WDW that doesn't have a bad review posted about a recent visit there. ;)

I would say Jiko's or Artist's Point. Either, I think, would be an excellent choice.

I think Jiko's would work because that Filet over mac and cheese is going to satisfy your step-dad with no problems. I think the Braised Short Ribs would, too.
