romance help needed :-)

My BF and i are traveling to san diego for part of thanksgiving break, we are flying the kids out on wed. am and will have a few days to ourselves (woohoo, childless!). I would love to take him to stay on the beach for a night somewhere on the coast, i mean right on the beach in an awesome fun spot.

Anyone have a hotel suggestion for me to give him a great surprise?

Very, very famous, and views to die for. Presidents, movie stars, princes, etc have stayed there. Background for many movies, including Some Like It Hot with Marilyn Monroe. I believe that it was the model for some Disney hotels (Grand Floridian, I believe?). You'll recognize it instantly.

It's got a couple hundred yards of its own beach, so it certainly meets your "beachfront" criterion.

I agree with above. Hotel Del Coronado is tough to beat. Beautiful hotel and one of the best beaches in the San Diego area. Depending on time of your vacation, rates may not be that high.
