I need a good love triumphs book. I enjoyed Mary Balough (sp?) Simply Magic. Simple Perfect etc... I need a book that is a feel good love story. I'm partial to period ~ victorian, Elizabethian etc but if its good I'll read it. Any recommendations. I need to forget the economy, forget politics and just escape....

My absolute favourite Historical Romance author is Georgette Heyer. Her books are mostly based in Regency England - so around the early 1800's. Basically the same time period that Jane Austen wrote in, but I find she is quite humourous. And you are in luck because they are in the process of re-printing all her books.

I should add one more author. The Pink Carnation series by Lauren Willig. They are kind of fun, and are a combination of historical and modern romance. They aren't as good as Georgette Heyer but I quite like them.

Try the Pink Carnation series. I adore them! They are a spin off of a Scarlet Pimpernel type story. Set in Napoleonic England, and modern day. The modern day story links all the books together (you are following a woman's research into this one figure's life) but the bulk of the book is a couple's romance. There's a new couple each book, and they are all fabulous. A good mix of action and mystery to keep up the pace, and they are very very funny. And the woman aren't prissy good for nothings, they all have great personalities and lots of guts, without being obnoxious.

The Vampire Lestat.

Yeah...Sounds odd...But it's strangely Romantic.

Julia Garwood has some good books . Also Amamda Quick.

I love Johanna Lindsey (I literally own almost every book she has ever published), but I favor her earlier stuff...you might try the Malory series. I also like Lisa Kleypas, as well as Amanda Quick.

Brenda Joyce

I am currently reading her Masters of time series.
Dark embrace, dark victory, and dark lover

My all time favorite romance novel is "A Knight in Shining Armour" by Jude Deveraux.

Julia Garwood has some good books . Also Amamda Quick.

:thumbsup2 I LOVE Julie Garwood, but only her old romance stuff not these new mysteries. She has two books that go together, the bride and the wedding they are two of my favorite books of all time

How about Linda Lael Miller?! I LOVE her books! Most are westerns, but I like all kinds! She finds a way to transport you there!

Happy reading!

Amanda Quick's Arcane Society series (she writes modern Arcane Society books as Jayne Ann Krentz, also good). Another series I enjoyed was by Brenda Joyce, the Francesca Cahill novels, they were about a female detective in regency england. All have the word deadly in the title. Both of these series fall into the romantic suspense catagory.

Have you read the Outlander books by Diana Gabeldon? They are historical romance, but have a little more meat to them than your typical "romance novel". I also like the Nora Robert's books for mindless reading-especially since her books have so many different settings.

Within your preffered genre is a fabulous author Carla Kelly. You must read everything she has written!

I love all of Cassie Edwards books. Each book is about a different indian tribe. Its a great mixture of romance and history.

Karen Hawkins for Scottish romance.

Johanna Lindsey is awsome for English romance.

Thanks so much everyone. I made a list of your recommendations for when I go to the library.

I love Brenda Joyce. I'm not crazy about her new series. Her historical romance books are great. I think I have reread them several times. Kathleen Woodwiss is another great romance writer. I have every book she has written. I think I have read each of those books several times.
