Rolling Quarters!

Yep! I throw all of my change into jugs and roll it every 6 months. I'm also not above picking up a penny when I see one on the ground outside. :) I cash in anywhere between $200-$400 each time. That money then goes into DD's 529 account.

My bank went from taking rolled coins to a coin machine, then got rid of the coin machine and only take rolled coins again.
One other thing I do to save money is I always round up to the highest dollar in my checking account. That adds up so fast! Even if I make a purchase that is $10.25 - I deduct $11. And each pay I deduct $20 and leave that in there. So by the end of the year just with the $20 deductions each pay I have $520 saved! I know this would drive some people crazy not having their account match to the penny - but it works for me!

It's amazing how much money you can save by just keeping up with your spare change and then rolling it once/twice a year! I've been busy all afternoon with my coin jars. (^-^) I have them separated by type. Anyone else do this?

We do! We haven't counted/rolled any in about a year so we have a lot. We're going to buy 3 Disney Gift Cards with it and that will be each of our children's spending money at Disney :)

Our credit union has a free coin counting machine. I bring change in several times a year. I just brought in $21 worth of coins last week. I don't let it get too big because it's too heavy to carry. I haven't rolled coins in about 5 years, but our credit union does take them rolled.

And for the poster who asked if anyone counts their coins before putting them into the machine, no, I don't.

I do it as I go.

When I left coins loose in a jar, the coins tended to disappear. This was coincidentally when DH was working at a place with a 25 cent soda machine. :scratchin

I save just a handful of coins loose. Every few weeks I go through it, count each type of coin, write it on a piece of paper that goes into the ziptop baggie for the type of coin. When I have enough for a roll, I roll it. Boom, done.

As trips get close, I take it all to Chase and turn it into ones and fives, and that's our tip money. I hate the tipping culture with a burning passion, but I know I have to do it, so I try to make it painless. :)

Much less coin loss in the house when they know I'm keeping track of it!

Our banks will not take rolled coins. If you bring them in rolled, they break them open and put them in the counter. It's too easy for people to put a few coins on each end and fill the rest of the roll with slugs.

A bank my brother worked for did the same; it was in Miami and he always thought it was so gross to have to count all those dirty coins.

I'm glad Chase takes rolled coin so easily, though I also wouldn't mind skipping rolling the coins at home. :)

Does anyone else count their coins before dumping them in the counting machine at the bank? I always do. I can't tell you how many times the machine has been off by a few dollars! I count the money twice before going and even write down on a piece of paper how many of each coin.

The last time I did this, the guy at the bank opened the machine and there were so many coins caught up in the tubes and also all over the floor of the machine!!

I count my coins before using the coin machine. Last time it was off by $4.95. When I pushed it they gave me the extra money. Now I always count a head of time.

The machines are weighted differently then the self check outs at most stores.

Self check out at Walmart will take coins and is accurate.

We just started this in November of 2013 all change goes into a jar.

Once a month we take the jar to giant eagle (grocery store) use self check out and buy disney gift cards. Giant eagle offers fuel rewards for buying gift cards. For every 50 spent is .10 off gallon of gas.

right now we have 134.43 in disney gc plus I haven't taken the jar to Giant eagle this month yet. about $28 in change again.

Thinking about opening on of the online disney savings acct.

mind=blown. :scared1: This is fantastic, thank you!! :stitch:

Read every bit of information on the site BEFORE going forward with it. There's no such thing as "fine print" anymore; it's all links and popups and it is ALL available to read and think about. (and even with "fine print", that small wording screams " read me, I'm important!" and I read it)

It might work for you. It might not. It has to be spend through Disney or a TA booking through Disney. If you only stay at DVC on points, it's not for you, for instance. If you like to book through a place like Orbitz or Hotels.com, it's not for you. etc. You have to have your money in it for a certain amount of time before using it. There are rules. You NEED to read through it before making the decision.
