Rolling cooler as carry-on?

Big Lots has a very neat rolling cooler for only $12. It is good-sized, maybe about the size of a pilot carry-on bag. I am thinking of packing in it for our August trip, so that I'd have a cooler in the room for drinks but not have to check a suitcase. Has anyone ever done this? I think it's big enough to pack in but small enough to be a carry-on.

^^^ This actually sounds like a great idea! :thumbsup2

My husband and his buddies go on a fishing trip down off the coast of Tampa every fall, and at least two of them have used those for flying with no problem. Our Igloo Cube is always a piece of luggage for us to the World, but we drive.

ETA: You are talking about the soft-sided ones, right? That's what they have used. They flew out of Atlanta with no problems.

It would have to meet your airline's size and shape requirements, typically no more than 9 inches thick for carry-on.

Rolling coolers, wagons, etc. that may be pulled behind you are not permitted in the parks.

If it fits requirements for size unless the airline protests I would see no problem, the airline would be your best source for information on this.

I assume you are only using it for a carry on, not packing ice or gel packs for cooling? Ice can spill, gel packs will not be allowed due to the current security rules.
