Rolling Carry-on Luggage????

It's been a while since I bought a piece of rolling carry on luggage. So I'm looking for recommendations.

I want one that is easy to menuver, doesn't tip over when full and where I can strap on a bag to the top attaching it to the pulling handle.

Also does expandable carry-ons cause problems when traveling?

Please tell me about your rolling carry-on luggage and what you love about it.

I don't have any suggestions, but just a friendly reminder. When you look at wheeled luggage for a carry on, remember the wheels and handle are a part of the over all size. So, if you look at the size requirements for some of the airlines, remember that number MUST include anything that sticks out (like the wheels).

I have Heys XCase luggage and I love it! All 3 pieces have the spinner wheels and are all expandable. I was worried the first time I used the carry on and expanded it but it still fit just fine in the overhead space. I travel almost exlusively Southwest if that tells you anything about carry on size.

Yes, if the expanded size is larger than the allowed carry-on size.

Check the sizes of allowed carry-ons for the airline/s you may be using. Keep any potential purchases that size or smaller to be safe.

That's one reason why we've moved away from large, rolling carry-ons. We now either use back packs that max-out the regulated size, or we use ridiculously small carry-ons, holding just the absolute essentials for the flight, itself, putting all other items in our checked luggage.

When we were faced with flying last summer I looked on the airlines website for the max dimensions. I then went shopping for the max space I could legally bring. I ended up at a store called Ross, and found 2 that worked out very well. One even has a zip out bottle/cup holder. One thing I found was that some take up a LOT of space with wheels that extend down from the bottom, while others have space almost all the way to the floor with wheels that are imbedded into the design (if that makes sense).

And for what its worth the one I ended up with is Samsonite. My DD22 took the other one home with her to Orlando so don't remember the brand that one was.

As above, airlines measure the wheels and the handles.
Larger bags have handles on two sides. Some airlines also measure the contours of the bag - so if there's a bulge while they're measuring it, the bag may end up too large.
Weight is another consideration - yes, even for carry-on luggage. The larger the bag, the heavier it'll be when it's packed.

PSA: Please never pack a carry-on heavier or bulkier than you can lift and hold over your head without assistance.

We switched from Samsonite to Tumi international. It's smaller than domestic carry ons since we need that. Tumi is very lightweight; I cannot lift a full spinner type by myself but I can lift the Tumi. I have a 19" carryon plus a tote that can slip over the handle that holds my laptop and extra clothing that goes easily under the seat.

During holiday season traveling with huge bags can be hassle however luggage should have enough space to accommodate everything. Generally it’s a misunderstanding wheels make a huge difference but it’s not true. I am using Eagle Creek bag which has sturdy wheels, though it is exceptionally light.

I would suggest you check the carry on size of several airlines that you fly or may fly. I've found that the measurments are different on each. Jetblue is a little more generous, while United tends to stay pretty small. We have several different size carryon rollbags to fit each of the airlines we might be flying. We do check most of our bags, but sometimes on the longer trips we do have to carry on at least one small bag. We actually took a carry on last month and had it expanded on the way home, flying Jetblue, and there was plenty of room, and no problem getting it in or out.

I have a Samsonite Xspace spinner I got at Tuesday morning for about $125. I love it but it is heavy compared with other brands. I think the spinner wheels make it heavier but the convenience of the spinners cancel out the extra weight, IMO.

A few years ago GMA did a segment on luggage and Delsey was recommended. I went and bought a set and LOVE it. It's sturdy, easy to use, has nice wheels, a nice selection of sizes and is affordable. We've flown with it, cruised with it and taken many road trips with it. I would recommend this brand to anyone.

I bought DH, both my sons and myself Samsonite hard shell carry ons from ebags and Kohls. I had a 30% off at Kohls and waited for them to go on sale--I think for $109. I bought each of us a different color and made sure that the sizes would also fit on European plane overheads because I believe their max size was an inch smaller than American planes. They have spinning wheels and are very easy to wheel around. They have been on several flights this past year and held up very well.
