Hi all! As my trip to Disney world is quickly approaching (yay!) I have a question for those who are more experienced in the thrill ride category. Basically, I'm terrified of most amusement park rides, but love practically all the rides at Disney (all 3 mountains included). However, expedition Everest really terrified me, actually going backwards was probably the worst. So now the only 2 thrill rides left to go on are RnRc and ToT. Are they both big thrills? Will I be able to go on them and not throw up? (I've never ridden a roller coaster with inversions before and know RnRc has 3). Any advice would be greatly appreciated :D

I would say yes, if EE terrified you. Can't tell you if you'll hurl or not.

Surprisingly EE is my favorite ride. I can live without ToT and I refuse to ride RnRc. ToT is not that bad to me. It's not the drop that gets me. It's when they jerk me back up that I get uncomfortable.

Fellow roller coaster baby here. EE completely terrified me - my scariest Disney experience by far. I was OK with the backwards part but completely freaked by the big drop.

Rock 'n Roller Coaster wasn't as bad for me. I can't say I enjoyed it but it was tolerable. The launch is so fast that you are through the first two inversions before you even know what happened and the rest goes by in a flash.

I don't like Tower of Terror. I was freaked out waiting in line but actually OK during the ride. I just wanted the dropping to stop because it was actually painful.

I would say though, if you survived EE, you will survive RnR and ToT without puking. :). You just may not like them.

It's so hard to say how someone will react to a ride. I can actually handle the loops and inversions better than I can going backwards. I can say RnRc is faster and in my opinion, more intense than EE. I do fine on it. My dad, who can do normal, non-inverting coasters fine, did not do well on it. He felt very ill after riding it. ToT is a whole different ballgame. The drops to me felt very different from roller coaster drops, and while I ended up loving it, I did come off that ride feeling a little queasy. I wasn't in danger of hurling, but I couldn't ride it twice in a row.

Neither ride is likely to make you hurl.

Thrill ride-sickness is like other kinds of motion sickness it's caused by a disconnect between what your eyes are telling you and what your inner ear is telling you about your speed, direction, etc.

Rides that have all the exciting parts while going forward and accelerate mostly in a straight line are unlikely to cause nausea. That everest one was a doozy, my wife got ride sickness for first time in her life on it. Space Mountain can bother people too because of the darkness (no input from eyes).

If what you usually have is a fear-response then worst case you will go into a mild catatonic state. I've seen people fall asleep on thrill rides that terrified them. (there's a great video out there of a guy being tickled to sleep ... same mechanism)

If you're worried, dial in a small buzz before getting on the rides.
