rollator/ecv question

I have already reserved an ecv for me for our upcoming trip. However it is becoming more and more apparent that I should probably bring my rollator as well. The original plan was to use the ecv for the long walks, etc. and to leave it outside of rides, shows, stores etc. My balance however is steadily declining and I am suffering from several falls a week. so I have a few questions.

1. Will the rollator be able to be attached to the back of the ecv?
2. Would we have to take it off on the busses?
3. How would the rollator be handled in lines/rides? Any advice or experiences would be very helpful.

Thank you

There is no need for both. the queue's are mainstreamed so that you can take the ECV right through them. No need to get off.

Most rides are set up for an ECV, there are a few that are not. Those usually have a WC available for the guest to transfer into for that ride. You cannot take the ECV on the rides so you would need to transfer into the regular ride vehicle after you reach it. You can take the ECV right up to the ride vehicle in most cases.

I thought I had read there were many rides where you could not take ecv

I don't think that you would be able to take your ECV actually on any of the rides, although there are some which have special cars that will take a wheelchair, or that ease sliding from a wheelchair onto the seat of the ride car.

OTOH, if you are able to walk a few steps and get into an ordinary ride car, you will be able to ride your ECV up to the load point on most of the rides. There are a few that require you to transfer from an ECV to a wheelchair to go through the line -- I know ToT and POTC do and perhaps one or two others, These will all have manual wheelchairs available to use in line, and a place to park your ECV.

Check the stickies, I know there is a discussion of the different rides there, plus Disney puts out a guide that you can download from their website. Plus there will always be CMs around the entrance of each ride you can ask. Some ride that are constant load will divert a car to a separate area where you can take your time to get on without holding up other riders. Most of the rides that have a moving walkway to board can stop it to let you on, but not all. Most notably Peter Pan can't normally stop, but sometimes they will if you are among the first few riders in the morning. (The concern is for the safety of other riders in suspended cars stopped inside the ride.)

Thank you all I am just concerned about the hassle of driving the ecv through the que and around all those turns when I don't really need it except for long distances however if I go with out anything I am liable to fall several times in line that is why I was thinking the rollator would come in handy.

The idea situation for me would be a rollator that turns into a manual wheelchair I can push on my own. However I haven't been able to find one of those yet.

The queue's that are mainstreamed are ECV friendly, just drive slowly and the turns are easy to make. There are a few attractions that ECV's enter in another area where you wait to board (Spaceship Earth I can remember off the top of my head). But as others have replied, most of the lines are mainstreamed and you can take your ECV to the ride entrance or there is a line just for ECV's/wheelchairs that goes off to another loading area once you have waited in line. Some of the lines are a long distance to walk even with the support of a rollator to assist you, there was a thread on Disboards about the distance to the loading area of Soarin which was 1/4 mile if I remember correctly ( someone please correct me if I am wrong). It doesn't seem like its that far when you are able bodied but it sure was long when my mother tried to walk it instead of staying in her w/c or on the ECV.

Having just rented an ECV for my mother in January, I would find it hard to figure out a way to safely put the rollator on the back of the ECV , but I am sure its been done and someone here will tell you how.

the rollator will not fit on back of your ECV and what would you do with the EVC when you are using the rollator? would just use the EVC as it is a long walk from any bus to any park entrance let alone all the walking you do inside each park.:thumbsup2

I think the ECV is your best bet -- most of the lines are fairly easy to make it through. However, for those lines where you can't take an ECV, but must take a manual chair, if you don't have someone to push you (or don't feel comfortable being pushed), you might just push the empty chair.

It would roll more easily than a rollerator, and you wouldn't want to do this if you think it might get away from you. But if you just want to hold onto something to help stabilize you, this might help. Some people have talked in this forum about having problems getting stiff or hurting if they sit too long, so part of the time they walk and push the empty chair instead of sitting in it.
