Roger Williams Pumpkin Festival Help

Wondering if any of the New England Dis'ers have been to the Pumpkin Festival at Roger Williams Zoo?

Is it wortht he admission price? Do you get to go through the zoo too or just the pumpkin area? About how long do you spend there?

I asked about this last year I believe, but we didn't end up going. I think the answer was you just go thru the wooded swampy area which has all the carved pumpkins, I think the lines can be long and the wait as well,
someone will chime in if I am wrong.
some of our friends have been and they didn't say anything bad about it, but it has been a few years. so I may not be remembering

I am glad you asked this because we are debating going.

I don't know what part of the state you are in but the Stone Zoo is also having a Boo at the Zoo.

oh and I wanted to add, if you like Old Sturbridge Village their Things that GO Bump in the Night is a good time and always fun.
they have the entire field covered with lit jack o lanterns, and you can spend the whole evening , they have activities and trick or treating in the town square for the kids.
we always enjoy it and I think its worth the admission price ( about $12 )

I just spoke to them at RW They said the lines can be long to get in, but it is a great all ages event. They set everything up in their wetlands area of the park and the actual exhibit probably takes about 45 minutes to get through if you are moving along at an average rate.

I am pretty torn. It is not too expensive, but kind of a haul to drive down for an hour of fun.

I am looking for something fun to do in the evening with my teens and another family and their teens.

Since you have teens, Sturbridge has a section for age 11 and up which is themed a bit scarier, our kids are too young so we never went to that area, but another thing to consider.

I like that idea, but it appears it is only one night--October 30 and unfortunately it des not work for us

I haven't been in a few years, but I agree that lines can be long. Ex and I left the kids home and went. The carvings are awesome. Just a word of advice, I remember strollers/wagons, etc. NOT being allowed. The ground did have some tree roots and was a little un=event from what I remember, nothing terrible, but not Disney

We only attended once, several years ago, but I remembered being totally impressed with how beautiful the lit pumpkins were along the trail at night. It was definitely one of the best Halloween events we have been to. We also had to drive about 1 1/2 hours to get there, and i still think it was worth it. DD was about 8 at the time and enjoyed it.

What about the Screemfest at Canobie Lake Park? We haven't been as my kids are too young but I have some friends with teens that went last year & they loved it.

I just checked the website, it says strollers are allowed, so maybe they changed that rule

least busy nights Mon-Wed,
busiest time is 6-8.
on busy nights wait can be 2 hours

We went a few years ago and it was amazing! We went early in the month of October and had to wait over an hour to buy tickets! Be prepared. Once you get in the walk through can be slow too. Going on the 31st this year because we will be coming from an event in Cape Cod. We are prepared to wait a loooonnggg time. They do not sell tickets ahead of time as far as I know.

The Beatles octopus garden was one of my favorite parts. They had a huge octopus, all the Beatles on carved pumpkins, dry ice, etc. They had Jack-O-lanterns out on the water, in trees, etc. They had thousands.

Ohhhh I went twice! It was great! It's in a different area from the Zoo and you don't see the animals. I thought it was amazing and I WISH I was going.

The lines are really long I would plan to get there either very early or very late.

We go every year. The RWZ is about 1 1/2 hours from our house, so we make a day of it! We visit the zoo during the daytime hours! The kids enjoy seeing the animals. The elephant exhibit is great and they have a baby giraffe! The RW Park (in which the zoo is located) is quite decorative with an oriental garden, Hasbro Game playground, carosoul, and swan boats. I think they have botanical gradens, a "casino", and planetarium(? I think) there as well. Be sure to bring some bags of bread to feed the Canadian geese! You can picnic in the park, but if that's not your thing, we like to go to the Providence Place mall for dinner and fun at Dave & Buster's or tastey treats at the Cheesecake Factory (both in the mall). After dark, we return to wait in line for the Pumpkin Spectacular. The kids like to dress up in their costumes! It can be cold - but they sell all sorts of choco/ coffee/ warm cider along the line. The trail follows the woodland/swamp area. They hang the pumpkins from trees and place on platforms in the water. It is beautiful. The walk is very slow going and some areas can be crowded. It can be difficult to push a stroller with all the people.
I recommend it! I can't wait to go this year!
