Congrats @ehh ! You certainly have done the time with the numbers to have conviction!
Ironically, I wasn't doing that analysis for myself as we've never really been 'value' buyers. We buy where we want to stay, hope/try for a good deal in our target area, and everything else is secondary.

But the Most Economical Resort analysis was very illuminating for subsidized Aulani to me. To the point where I was considering holding off posting it until I found 'my' subsidized contract: a 160pt AUL-S with Jun or Dec UY. But those are also goldilocks contracts and would be scooped up by whomever sees it first, independent of me posting anything.

In the back of my head I was thinking "you know what'd be nice? a boatload of AUL-S points" as SAP+, but I never saw a path to it with our UYs.

Congrats! That’s a lot of happy memories being prepaid.

This was painful for me because I will soon own over 800 points (ROFR monster willing) at a *much* higher average weighted cost and seeing that total cost on 655 amount forced me to reckon with how much I’ve spent collectively over the past few years. 😭😭
At $117/pt, this is our lowest buy-in of any of our contracts, so I get that.

A big component of our thought process was how much we'd spend incrementally working our way to adding on this many points, and that this contract was much less than other paths we were considering.

For example, because we buy for specific stays, our next contract was probably ~200 Poly points so that we could upgrade our spring stay to a Poly 1BR TPV + have minor trickledown effect for other stays. That would have been ~$40k direct (which we would have done over resale at current resale prices).

Then after that it's likely we'd likely spend ~$22k for a $129/pt 160pt AUL-S contract whenever one popped up with the right UY. And then we'd only have ~300 more points to go with <$20k of 'comparative budget' left...

Anyway, with this contract we can skip all those incremental additions for net lower upfront, snag a value-first contract, and go straight to our endgame-ish: Cabunglaows for 7-10 nights a year for trips that are currently Studio/1BR, add a trip to Aulani every 2-3 years, and keep all of our other trips intact.

Cautiously optimistic about ROFR.

Blerghityblergh---$113-$15043-125-BLT-Dec-0/22, 0/23, 125/24, 125/25- sent 5/30, passed 8/06

This one took a long time because it was in the court system.

Since we’ve now bought 3 contracts in a year I think we need to cut it out so you probably won’t hear from me for a while……I think 😝

Add-onitist Anonymous meets every Thursday evening in the church annex.

Congrats!! I saw this one - it’s fixed week at Christmas right? Would be so nice to use it in that way at some point :)
Is it a fixed week 2BR for Christmas?

Edit: based on the original chars I'm pretty certain it's a 2BR ocean view over Christmas. Not a bad room to have for that time of the year :P
2BR Ocean View for W52, which is usually the week containing New Year's Eve + New Year's Day. 2028 is the only soon-ish year that gets Christmas; it's Dec 24-31 that year.

Not sure when we'll actually use it as a FW, but I suppose we always have the option!

As a new member of this forum & hopefully 🤞 a new member of the DVC family (Aulani in contract with ROFR 8/1), I want to thank you pangyal for updating this thread! I'm not sure if I got a great deal, but I paid less than I was planning because of you. I had a question about formatting. I am in ROFR with 4 contracts (from the same seller), so they discounted my closing costs into 1 price. How did you want me to format the string(s)? Spread out the closing costs into 4 separate contracts or just combine everything into 1?

I think getting the closing consolidated is an amazing deal! Many don’t realize how much closing costs add to cost pp

I agree with @AstroBlasters 4 separate, then I would divide the closing costs evenly across all 4
