I did buy another 1000 points direct at OKW, so my total is 2400 now.

Wow...with the 2,400 OKW points that @DonkeyHoTay owns, he could stay for an entire calendar month at OKW in a 3-bedroom Grand Villa...and still have points left over! :-)

How many points to stay for a MONTH in a 3-bedroom Grand Villa at OKW?

- Entire month of January: 1,472 points

- Entire month of April: 1,952 points

- Entire month of August: 1,672 points

- Entire month of September: 1,368 points

- Entire month of October: 1,748 points

Think of it this way, anyone that owns points to a luxury timeshare has made it. Even if its just a few points.
I was thinking the same. These are not tiny purchases! I also think joining DVC at all only makes sense for some people and the “right” number of points probably varies widely not only on your financial situation but also your vacation preferences, location, etc.

So with DVC dues you can’t get discounted gift cards & you have currency risk…. yikes!
But when the local currency is stronger and you have bought your DVC contract, you don't need to worry about US trips because you've locked the accommodation in. 😀 Australian dollar dropped from .75c to .65c. Doesn't matter!!! (I am ignoring food and tickets).

I get that. I was just thinking about owing $15k+ in annual dues if my wages/income sources was in a different currency…. that is a whole different level of DVC risk.

To your point, this is on top of airfare prices, park tickets, cost of food…. all with currency risk…..

Are the cabungalows calling your name? 🤣

They sure do! But I have a lot of other room types booked, including the CFW where accommodations are crazy low points!

Just imagine paying dues at almost $24,000 per year on 2,400 points! I’m pretty happy not doing that lol

Yeah that is damn serious. But everything is relative - the 1k point leaderboard has people with more points than me, and their dues bills are no less staggering.

A lot of people will rent enough points every year to cover the dues.

Does that math even work? Are you clearing more (after dues and taxes) than you would in a treasury bond (even without calculating the fact that your underlying DVC ownership is declining towards zero eventually)?

I ask this without judgment and in hopes that somebody will help me convince myself that buying another 500 points actually is a smart investment. Of course, then I’d have to have the discipline not to blow them all on 3 days in a bungalow…🤪
