Roethlisberger admits: 'I don't think I got in'

He made it....ball over the line, knee still in the air:

the seahawks won every aspect of the game except the final score. the officiating was crap. but that's how these things go. it didn't affect me, I'm a Bucs fan. :)

Well I'm not going to rehash this whole issue all over again. My opinion, in summary is this:

Seahawks dominated the first half in spite of a clearly biased group of refs. Had they not have to play against the Steelers 12th man - in this case the refs - they probably would have won. All of the hype, the commercials only showing 3 Seattle players with the trophy versus how many Steeler players just confirms that Seattle was destined to lose no matter how good of a game they played.

if you can get a tape of the game watch it closely Seattle was guilty of holding on almost every passing play, that's the only reason the steelers didn't have more sacks..as Raiders and Browns fan, the Steelers are far from my favorite team, so I'm certainly not biased towards them

Gees this is crazy. The Steelers have had to fight non-believers for years. And were huge underdogs in every game leading to the SuperBowl and then it was only a spread of 4 points.

Of all the comments I heard, I just think it was really classless of Mike Holgram's comment during the rally in Seattle. I thought he was a better coach and person than that. Talk about sore losers.

I can't see anyone on the Steelers making a comment like that, if the tables would have been turned, especially Bill Cowher.

OK I'm lying. Joey Porter would have said something.

Can't really comment on the Superbowl because I didn't watch a lot of it, but I do think the quality of the officiating in the NFL has gone down the tubes in the last few years. There is a huge lack of consistancy now. Some games are called tight and some are called so they let anything short of murder go. There have always been controversial calls in regular games and playoffs, and some have really been the deciding factor. Is this one call the reason Seattle lost? :confused3 who knows. Unfortunately as long as the refs are human there will be judgement calls and the replay is only as good as the person reviewing it and the angles that are shown. I just wish there was a way to change it, but what can be done? I guess if you are a fan of the team on the receiving the bad call, you just have to realize that things happen and move on. (this is really a funny statement coming from a Bills and Sabres fan....we never move on!)

My biggest problem with the whole thing is usually no matter how bad some regular season games are, the SB supposedly has the best refs so that crap doesn't happen in the big game.

In a way this SB proved the NFL has become the NBA. The league with superstar calls, and refs who let the crowd blow their whistle. I've all but stopped watching the NBA, maybe the NFL is next.

I guess if you are a fan of the team on the receiving the bad call, you just have to realize that things happen and move on. (this is really a funny statement coming from a Bills and Sabres fan....we never move on!)

pssst... has Norwood been taken out yet?

I don't agree with him saying it on Letterman. What was the point of that? Just b/c they always score on the 4th down. There is no way to prove they could have done so on Sunday. And he is disservicing his teammates and fellow Superbowl Champs by saying that type of thing.
Ben was just telling the truth to a question he was asked. I admire that ::yes:: We live in a society that is all to easy to beat around the bush or just entirely skirt a question that is uncomfortable to answer, for fear of what the recourse will be. I don't think it's a disservice to his teammates because after he had a chance to look at the replays, he agreed that it was a touchdown.
So KUDOS to Big Ben for being honest! :thumbsup2

I love him too. I was a huge Bills fan back then. I had to root for somebody who could win. Those two Bills teams are IMHO the best to never win the big game.

The Steelers were just as guilty of holding on almost every play too...

Bottom line is this: Even if you take away Ben's touchdown and they kick a field goal instead of going for it on 4th we still win by 8. If we go for it and don't make it we still win by 4. :cool1:

As everyone else said: we STILL would have won. Take it away and we still had more points than Seattle. There have been games that we played that the refs made bad calls against us. The Steelers have a HUGE fan base and they deserve it. He might have thought he didn't make it in, but he did. A lot of athletes say things about not thinking they scored because watching it is different than doing it. KWIM? He was in the moment, probably not able to tell where exactly the ball was in relation to the endzone, but as spectators, the refs were able to see that it touched the line. Every game has some bad calls. Fans and players just need to learn to move on. It happens to every team at some point in time.

Yeah, but then I might have won some money in our football pool at work! :teeth: :teeth:

I can't criticize the ref for initially calling it a TD because we can't see the play through his eyes. In the end, I don't think it was overturned because it couldn't be shown with 100% certainty that he didn't cross the plane. To me, it looks like the ball came down closer to the goal line and was pushed back. So, I couldn't say conclusively that he didn't make it. I couldn't say conclusively that he did either, but IMO, the right call not to overturn the decision was made.

I'd always figured, even if they did miss, they would have gotten a field goal at minimum which would only deduct 4 points, not 7. If Ben's saying they'd have went for it though, so, I guess that doesn't hold up. We'll never know how it would have played out.

the final score was 21 to 10
take away the 7 point that ben admits he did nto score you guys have 14
add 7 to the touchdown that seattle lost int he 1st quarter cuz of the crappy offensive holding then they have 17 so they would have been winning
that doesnt mean other point would have been scored
but the steelers got a pass here and they played just as bad as seattle they got lucky and then they got all the calls

Or add 7 points here or there where you feel like it until you get the score you want... we from both sides could do that all night. However, there is a reason its only the refs. who can call it a touchdown or not.
At the end of the day...
Steelers won and ifs and could bes wont change that. :cool1:

That's where you're wrong. They took the 7 from Seattle, BUT....Seattle scored 3 with a field goal.

You know, for someone who claims to be unbiased in another thread you really are taking this to the extreme. Fact is, he did extend his arm and push off in the end zone. Thats a penalty-deal with it.

What Ben said was he told Coach Cowher he did not think he got it when he was on the sideline. He did not say I did not make the touchdown.

Anyway, Steelers won, obviously your team didn't. I wish people would quit whining about it, its done, its over and its not gonna change a thing.
