Hello, I was wondering if any knows if you can go in and out of the shops on Rodeo drive. We are taking our first trip ever out there this summer. My teenage daughters want to experience Rodeo drive but I didn't know if these shops let the "common folk" in ... ha ha ha. :rotfl2:

O.K. I'm just a commoner(sp?) ,But unless you cruise up in a Mercedes or aRolles AND look like Alicia Silverstone I doubt it.j/k.GO FOR IT! Seeing it on TV is one thing, but it is not my cup of tea. BTW i hate shopping a Wal-Mart, But pig food is cheap there. :confused3

I don't think they would not allow you in but if you're not accustom to shopping in high end shops, you might feel uncomfortable. If you are not dressed nicely, you will definitely not be taken seriously by the sales clerks.

There are lots of fun shops on Rodeo and Beverly and you can definitely go and experience it all, try on Manolo's in Saks, try cheese samples in the Beverly Hills Cheese Store (YUM!!) and once in awhile you'll see a celebrity incognito.

Your daughters will have fun.

ETA: I think Neimans or Saks, maybe both have free valet parking for 2 hours on weekdays. I would call to check first.

You can and should try it just once at least! There will be lots of tourists walking and looking and you can't tell who is who by their dress either. You don't have to be "dressed up" to go shopping.

Once time, a woman who looked like a "bag lady" was in one of the shops we were in and in about 10 minutes, plopped down big money and walked out with her purchases. We all got the giggles thinking we always knew not to judge a book by it's cover but in this case, we had and we were all shocked! It doesn't matter what you wear, the salespeople are generally snotty to everyone, they are paid extra to do that-lol.

Realistically, unless you are well off, you WILL be shocked at the prices and it might end up just being a disappointment to your daughters unless you prepare them in advance that you will just be looking and not buying! Make sure they understand that these prices are near the top of the scale and they might see things like a plain cotton t-shirt go for $500! If they can handle that, then by all means go and shop, heck, let them try on some stuff as long as you all understand buying is out of the question and they shouldn't even ask. I don't think that will be too much fun to shop and not buy so maybe take them somewhere else after to get their "fix" like the Beverly Center about 5-10 minutes away.

If you are "well off", do some planning in advance and pick something ahead of time to buy and then surprise them! When we were young, just turned teenagers, we went to Tiffany's "just to look, not buy" and my Dad had preordered gold bangles for each of us 3 sisters, engraved with our names on them. What a wonderful surprise and all these years later, we all still have them and I wear mine almost daily with the fondest of memories! They were obviously not the most expensive things in the store but we couldn't have asked for anything better.

Think about maybe something you would buy anyway, maybe a watch for example and price them on the web before you go to see if it is feasible. You can always call specific stores ahead of time and price over the phone. Maybe you could get them each a scarf or something small to remember your trip by-but be careful that it isn't a 5K scarf-lol.

You might even get lucky and see some filming. Years ago, we saw Charlie's Angels being filmed and saw Farah Fawcett-lol-mind you I was just a small young thing way back then. It was a drag though because you couldn't drive all the way around and parking was too hard but still, it was cool.

Years later, we saw Cheryl Ladd filming in Honolulu-funny but I guess that was my destiny to only see Charlie's Angels-lol. Couldn't have been Tom Cruise or some other handsome man...

Everytime we've been in L.A. we've got shopping there, there are more tourists than locals I think, so the shop keepers are used to it :)

Thanks for all the great information, especially to fidoprincess for the Tiffany's idea. We are not "well off" but I may be able to swing something special. I am just glad that we won't be snubbed like Julie Roberts in Pretty Woman! LOL ...

How old are your girls? I know that teenagers now "have to have" silver and are not very crazy about gold so that would make it easier (read Cheaper!) to do a reasonable surprise. You can just call up ahead of time and order something but for sure, swing for the extra little bit to have it engraved (hand not machine-lol)
Here is a quick idea with the signature "return to tiffany" heart but I am sure if you looked over the website and maybe even ordered the catalog, you could find something to suit your budget and their tastes:

or this even cheaper:

I'm bad at this link business, hope it works but at least you will have some idea of prices and offerings. There are tons of other stores as well but a piece of jewelry will last their whole lives vs. a piece of clothing. Don't forget the camera too because nothing make us girls jump up and down like those cute little blue boxes! (Don't forget to save the box too!)

Here is a picture to get you excited:http://www.seeing-stars.com/ImagePages/RodeoTiffanyPhoto.shtml

I was reading another travel type site and they were talking about some trolley that takes you all around there too, might be fun to check into that at as well All you have to do is keep me posted-lol, I'll be really curious what you decide and if you pick something, what it will be!

I have just spent about the past hour looking at the website!!! I was looking at some of the same items you selected. I'm probably dumb about this but why hand engraving vs. machine??? The girls are 16 & 17 (one month shy of 18) when we go. They are old enough to appreciate something like that and would remember it for a lifetime (as you have) ... :thumbsup2

That would be so so cool! They are the perfect age and I bet they do love silver more than gold. I want to be there to watch-lol! Tell me what thing you are going to pick...

I said hand engraving vs. machine because IMHO, it lasts longer because it seems to go a bit deeper and "seems" more personal (-kind of like the old hand done embroidery machines vs. the new ones at DL for the ears). That's all but if it is machine engraving vs. not getting anything, I can speak for your daughters and said, get it done on the machine-lol!

Don't forget not to order it on the web. You have to call the store and get it there so you can pick it up there. Good luck! (You realize that they will be Tiffanized for life after this though and their future hubbys will be put to the test, esp. with engagement rings-lol)

Oh, when you go be sure to at least look at the diamonds but remember to wear your shades or you WILL be blinded-lol.

Wow! Your daughters will have so much fun! My parents took my sisters and I to rodeo drive to "window shop" when I was 16. I was in complete sticker shock!! My mom bought a Gucci keychain and even that was expensive. I got to meet Barbara Billingsley (from leave it to beaver) who happened to be shopping that day. It definately is a memory that will last a lifetime!! Have FUN!!!

Fidoprincess I found a bracelet. What a wonderful idea you gave me. So I called and the store will send me a catalog. I did pick out a bracelet for 13,500. It is beautiful. I dought that I will be buying that one. But I will be getting something. Thank you so much :wizard:

"I did pick out a bracelet for 13,500" When I read this, I almost died-lol! I'm glad you called the store and they were nice to you. Now I know I will be looking for your trip report in July, Don't forget to come back and post it!

The best part is once you buy something, they will put you on the mailing list and send you the catalog every year or maybe 2Xs a year. I can't tell you how many hours my sisters and I spent drooling over those catalogs-lol. Don't forget to ask when you are there if you have to be put on the list or what. It was so many years ago for us that I don't remember but I do remember how beautiful everything was-lol.
Just an aside, about 10 years ago my home was robbed! I lost so much stuff but not my Tiffany Bracelet because I was WEARING it that day-talk about luck!

On our recent trip we went down Rodeo Drive in the course of some sightseeing (we didn't have time to stop anywhere though.) It's always interesting to look around some of these high-end shopping districts. About a year ago we were in Florida for a couple of days before a cruise and spent some time in the South Beach area of Miami, Lots of cool stuff to look at while we waited outside for my Mom and sister to gawk at the $500 shoes.
