Walked right on. That was around 12:30. No one in line. My personal feeling is to stay focused, look straight ahead. Be intent on what your particular job is. My MIL rode it with us. I was really worried she would be sick. She got off and said she loved it. You can really feel the G force. Dont eat a big meal before you get on it. DW has to take medicine for dizzy spells. She feels queasy just riding in the car sometimes. She said she could ride it again(not 2 times in a row)

WOW NO LINE!!!! Can't wait to ride it!!! I get motion sickness in a car but I plan on trying this one anyways - good suggestion about NOT eating a big meal before hand.

So glad you enjoyed--I did too!

We noticed that the lines seemed to track with meal times--lines were shortest at times when you would expect people had just eaten, longest on the off times. I guess many have taken the advice not to ride just after eating! We rode it just before heading to a late lunch, so our breakfast was not a factor.

I am the world's worst ride chicken and I just loved it.

I have been reading the posts, but am unsure of the "jobs" when riding...if you mess up the job is it still okay?

:listen: Did i hear no line at 12:30... thats crazy!

maybe you can hold out on lunch for an hour ride it then eat... i think that will be my plan for attack!

i cant wait!

We really thought Mission Space was cool too! I can't wait to ride it again in February! It is a very unique experience. Although I have trouble with rides like Space Tours - Mission Space did not make me feel motion sick.

Enjoy!

The computer will do your "job" if you don't--my DH was so focused on staying "focused" on the screen that he missed his cue. And he's the big aviation buff!!

nothing different happens if you hit them or not. I do find it funny that they tell you over and over and over to stay focused on the screen and not to look around the cabin.......and than tell you to hit a specific button located out of your line of site of the screen! I just felt around to hit a button. The one time I did half way look a specific button, I instantly felt sick but it went away when I focused back on the screen.

Great ride...did it twice in a row...not waiting but was not brave enough to chance it with a third time! Can't really compare it to anything else at Diseny or any other park. Very cool ride!

Enjoy!

Dh and I believe that the reason they give "jobs" is so that you can stay focused on the ride and not look around. Plus, each seat has a mini camera focused on you and if you don't do even attempt to do your "job" AND seem listless, they know to stop the ride because there might be something wrong.

jimmytammy - Glad you enjoyed the ride. I've previously posted my own thoughts so I won't repeat them, however I will add that we were there first week of November and walked on to M:S both times we rode it early in the day. I think Disney has so wrongly advertised and over-hyped this attraction that they are scaring away a lot of guests who would probably enjoy the experience. At the same time that M:S was a walk-on, Test Track had a 60 minute wait.

I second that thought disneysteve. If you can ride a fast spinning rides with not sickness then this ride is a piece of cake. I looked everywhere (other screens, DW while she turned green :bounce: , other people) no problem. DW had to sit for a while afterward (so I got to play the games the end for a long while). :teeth:

Everyone is different. DW gets motion sick easily and I would say 1/2 her problem was getting sooooo worked up before that she convinced herself she would get sick. Not sure I would want to go right after lunch with other people who ate. You just never know who's gonna blow...

I rode two more times in a row, and by the third my stomach was starting to get a little more sensitive.

Third time I had my crew panicking because I said I refused to do my job cuz I wanted to crash. (some people are so gullible)

DW says she won't do it again, but I'm proud of her for trying.

Impressive, 3 times in a row - congrats :Pinkbounc

I rode it one time, will ride again but on next trip

I was feeling a little spacey for about 1hr afterwards and could only handle going to The Living Seas and just checking things out while I came back down to Earth from Mars.

thanks

My hubby & I are going to DW soon & we would love to know if this is a coaster type ride or just a sit & it moves up & down..around etc.? We would love to try this but we...okay... I am alittle nervous about it. Is it like that "back to the future" ride at that other park? LOL

MS is a space simulation ride:

Disney has made no attempt to hide the technology behind the magic. While climbing into and leaving the capsules, guests can plainly see the large centrifuge in the middle of the room and the ten capsule pods arranged around it. There are four of these ride bays in the Mission: SPACE complex. The lack of pretense plays into the story; Imagineers based the centrifuge and simulators on actual NASA training methods.

G-whiz
Once cleared for liftoff, the capsule tilts back. Crewmembers see the launch platform through the pod's windows (actually high-definition flat-screen LCD monitors), the countdown commences, and--yeow!--the capsule rumbles, the G-Forces create an odd and giddy sensation, and it's up, up, and away. It's an astounding illusion. Even though you know the cabin is spinning around and tethered to the ground, everything is conspiring to convince you that it is moving towards the heavens.

No up, no down, just rooooooouuuuuuunnnnnnnndddddd..... :crazy2:

This is no back to the future! DW was really nervous about it so kept asking the CM's. We ate lunch at the 50's Cafe and every CM asked said "it was... intense". Almost made us feel like they had been coached. But after riding it, I have to say that even though I don't get motion sick in the least, intense is truly the right word to describe.

If you don't get motion sickness easily, then you will love it. Just do as they say and keep facing forward. If you have ever ridden a carnival ride like "turkish twist" or "roundup" then this will be a piece of cake. Its just a bit faster.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. They are spending so much time telling everyone how "intense" the ride is that I think they are scaring people away. The TV commercials show everyone on the ride screaming at the top of their lungs.

The ride is relatively mild. It is no more intense than the tea cups, Tower of Terror, Test Track, or Space Mountain and less intense than Rockin Roller Coaster. But due to all the warnings and commercials, I think many people are scared to ride it. Hence the relatively short waits when we were there recently.

LOL, I think the intense part depends on your point of view. I will tell Threeboysmom you said it was no more intense than the tea cups....:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

And when I see the commercial you mention, I think, boy are they pandering to the kids. As if any adult would be afraid of a ride like... "oh sorry hon', I didn't mean you...." (DW just came in) :teeth:

In a way I agree with you. All you do is go around, and around, and around, and.... oh yeah, around. So in that respect it is. As DW reminds me... "just because you don't feel the tiniest bit of fear, doesn't mean its not scary". Some people are scared of water even when it is only 3" deep. :scared1:

DW now loves TOT. Took her 3 years to work up to it... then we rode it 11 times in a row. Then they changed it and it took her another year to work up the courage to go on it again.

Fear is as they say "all in the mind". For some people it just occupies more space than others. (adn for some it is easier to fill that space.... :scratchin

So to all you nervous, fearful, motion sick, weak knee'd, disers out there... bear down and try it. The most you have to lose is your lunch.... :happy1:

during Thanksgiving week...and as a 50 something who can handle any roller coaster in the world, but turns green even watching the tea cups spin, I was scared to death of losing it. (It could have been the fact that my three pod partners were the age of some of my clothes). It was FANTASTIC and yes, perhaps they are overhyping the intensity, but I was glad I had been prepared. This one was worth the wait in my opinion and I think they came up with a winner! Can't wait to get back there in March!

I did not have the same experience as the rest of you. I talked with and elderly couple on the monorail that morning and they assured me that they have week stomachs and they didn't even know that they were spinning the capsule so I decieded to try it. I love the tower of terror but there is no camparison with mission space. I knew they were spinning me from the time of take off. I didn't actually lose my breakfast but i was really dizzy. Although I am glad that I can say I rode it, I will never ride it again.

My daughters and I loved Mission:SPACE, which we experienced first thing on Thanksgiving Day. We walked into Epcot from the International Gateway entrance for Extra Magic Hour and jogged across the park. By the time we got there, the line was already huge. The standby time displayed as 60 minutes, and the single riders line as 30. This was really our Animal Kingdom day, so we got in the single rider line to minimize the wait, knowing we would be split up. It worked out beautifully, because it turned out that there was no wait -- all three of us got in immediately and together!
