rode in the front of the monorail!!

DH set this up for us on our Feb/Mar '05 trip. It was wonderful--but not a peep from the driver! Yes, not word one even though I tried to engage him. It was a little uncomfortable socially, but the view was super! Until now didn't know about the certificates--we'll be trying again this December!

We have been in the front about 3 times now and never had a good driver that would speak to us. Very strange. Plus my DD6 has never been offered a "co-pilot" license. This last time it was my B-Day and we got on the monorail at the MK to go to the Poly for our dinner and the CM told the driver that if someone was waiting at the CR we would have to get off and move to a different car. But the driver did say that is not the way things work and he would let us ride to the Poly. But that was the end of the communications.

We got to ride up front a few weeks ago. We had tried all week and no luck but on our last day we got to ride twice. First time was a quite driver second was a young friendly guy. we did get the co-pilot card

My son would love this. We will definitely have to try it. We are a family of 5. Does anyone know if we can all go in the front car or will we have to split up. I have heard only 4 passengers?

They only allow four up front. If you have more than that the rest of your group would have to sit separately.

We were fortunate enough to ride up front twice in January. The views were awesome, but both drivers were silent.

My DH rode up front during his first visit to the kingdom in '78. They had stayed @ the CR and upon returning from the MK (after dark) he got to ride up front with the operator. He said that then they didn't have the extras like the pics & licenses. Was very neat to say the least.

Since so many of us had an experience with a non-speaking monorail driver perhaps they're trained to be quiet and let us enjoy our experience?? Maybe I've got on my Pollyanna glasses but I always like to hope for the best!

especially when contrasted with how overly pleasant all the other cast members are -- very strange!

We got to ride up front from the TTC to Epcot on our last trip. I told the CM on the platform my DS5 is a big train nut and we were just here so he could ride on the Monorail. She told us to stand over there and pointed to the first loading area and to our surprise the the driver took us into the front. I didn't ask for this I was just making conversation. This is one of the things my son always mentions when he is asked about his trip to Disney.

We rode up front in October 2003.... we waited for the next monorail because someone had asked for the one that was there. The CM was very nice about it. Our driver was quiet and kind of gruff.... UNTIL my dh asked her about voltage (he's an electrician) then she couldn't talk enough about her monorail. It was great!!

We just got back May 28th and someone in our party got to ride up front 3 separate times. With more than four in our group, we had to try several times. It helps that we leave the park at odd times and also go to resorts to eat so it's not during busy times. My oldest got a license the first time, but my younger daughter wasn't offerered one on her turn. So the third trip, I saw the folder hanging on the wall with the cards in them and just asked for one when we were getting off. Not a talker among them. He didn't even say a word when I asked for the license and he handed it to me! The folder was right behind the driver on the wall.

That's soo cool, me and My wife are hoping (sp?) to ride on the front on our trip.

We got to do this on Christmas Day 2003. Our driver wasn't exactly chatty either, but she did answer all of dh's questions about their training politely. We also weren't offered the co-pilot's license, but she did give each of the children some Christmas candy (one of those extra large candy canes and one of the large Mickey lollipops). It was a magical way to end the day.

We rode up front on Tuesday! It was awesome DH LOVES the monorail....he has a model in his office and while we were riding in the regular section, he recorded the "Please stand clear of the doors etc." onto his cell phone, so when his phone rings it's the monorail voice....a little obsessive but it's cute

We rode for a second time on May 15-21 trip. The first time was on our previous trip. This time we were given the co-pilot's license. It was funny because while waiting for the driver at one stop a group of four scooted in and squeezed in. Including us we were six. We thought everything was o.k. until the driver came back and asked them to exit. Only four are allowed. They got in without asking. I told the driver "At least they didn't try to drive the monorail."
