Rockin Space Mountain

This was on Screamscape today and was wondering if anyone had heard anything about this. Lets face it, SM could use some TLC.

Rumor - (1/22/07) It’s only a wild rumor at this point, but we’ve heard that Disney could mention something about adding Rockin’ Space Mountain during this week’s various press events held throughout WDW. Of course this could just be hopeful thinking on the parts of Cast Members and there are a lot of ways this could go down.
They could borrow a page from Disneyland and only use this as an added attraction for Grad Night guests by adding colorful lights and a temporary speaker system inside the mountain. They could also be thinking about adding this for a limited public run in the slow season as they are doing at Disneyland right now.
Or... could this be a sign of something bigger, like the total replacement of the entire system system in the mountain with a brand new coaster? We’ve heard rumors on and off about a Space Mountain 2.0 project (below) like this being talked about every since it was announced for Disneyland a few years back. Of course this would mean that Space Mountain would be down for about a year to do it, but reopen with a brand new ride inside that would likely feature a single but much longer and smoother track layout. Plus the added benefit of being able to cut in half the number of CMs it takes to run the attraction by only having one track. Again... only a wild rumor and speculation at this point. We’ll see this week if Disney is ready to Rock or not.

I've heard of this "Rockin' Space Mountain". I think I also heard it's supposed to be playing the music of The Red Hot Chili Peppers.

I got to ride DL version last Summer it is incredible one of the best rides ever!
I rode DW twice since then and I won't ride it anymore, it is just awful compared to DL.
I can only hope they are going to change it, and as soon as possible.

Forgetting Rockit Mountain (or whatever it ended up being called), I would be strongly in favor of a total do-over of WDW's Space Mountain. Doubling the capacity of the ride vehicles and creating a single, longer, smoother track. While retaining the load 'em after they've emptied elsewhere set up. No inversions or big drops. Rather, something in keeping with the current "spirit" of the Mountain.

Well, SM is still my second favorite after everest. I still like the wild mouse feel it has, and in the dark it is still fun. I would prefer not seeing the "rocking SM" IT is cool and all, but seems like a knock off of rock and roller coaster, which WDW already has. I am not saying the video wasn't good, and i prefer the music! but it would be weird in WDW. I have always liked the weird space music, but since it isn't a inside themed ride other then que and outer concept, I would not be as opposed to them changing the ride portion, as long as they maintained the intensity that it has now (Yeah its a joke if you have been on something like millennium force at cedar point, but it has its own kind of pizazz.)


OT: I always thought it would be awesome if WDW built a themed wooden roller coaster in AK, woodens are rarely built anymore, and have a unique feel.. and i think themed in one of the lands would make it pretty cool... anyway...

Didn't they change DL SM because they had let maintenance get so bad that the track was falling apart and a deathtrap waiting to happen? I guess you can cross your fingers and hope for that at MK too.

And that Disney already had an identical track on order for Hong Hong Disneyland. Spitting out a second track cost Disney a lot less. Maybe Florida has to wait for Tokyo's ride to fall apart so Disney can get a similar "2-for-1" deal.
