We went on space mountain at magic kingdom and dh, DS6 and I all agreed we did not enjoy the g-force from that ride - nobody wanted to ride again. How does rock n cooler coaster compare? Is it all in the dark like space mountain? Can i sit next to my son or is it single file like space mountain? How much will my son get thrown around? How intense is the upside down part? Our issue was the force of the ride. My son looooooved expedition everest, so it's not the drops/thrill part of the ride that's the issue, it was the darkness, the g-force and the not sitting next to a parent that were issues. DS will be 7 when we return and is considering riding this. Thanks.

Not as dark as Space Mtn, much smoother, and you sit side-by-side. After the quick takeoff, it was actually slower than I thought it would be.

We're sorta coaster snobs, going to Cedar Point and Kings Island every summer, but we liked it. My 11 year old said he'd wait about 15 minutes for it, but not much more.

Well, you definitely sit together. The take off is very fast. Like 0-60 in 2 seconds fast. After that, it's a very smooth ride. You are inverted 3 times, but there aren't any big drops. Don't know if that will make a difference to your family since you said that the drops weren't a problem for yall. As the previous poster said, it's not as dark. It' supposed to be night time and you are driving to a concert, so you see traffic signs and things like that. Not all dark like Space Mountain.

Thanks, that is helpful.

Much faster, much smoother, doesn't have the tight turns (causing the g's) that SM has and it's not dark at all. RR is the second best attraction at WDW IMO. It's a can't miss.

Agree with all of above. I don't like coasters generally but I feel very secure on this one because of overhead bar. Remember though before it takes off to pin head back to headrest and keep it there until you are out of the gate. The initial takeoff is very intense and can slam neck backwards very hard

Space Mountain is like driving a very old car with bad suspension..
compared to..
Rock n' Roller Coaster is like driving a new Mercedes with stellar suspension.

Like others have said, the ride on RnR is very smooth.. The comparison is apples and oranges. Space is more of your old-school jerk you around coaster with quick turns and a lot of bunny hops. I could see why your family didn't like it - it feels like you're going to fall out..

RnR is fast at the beginning and you feel yourself pushed back in the seat at the start. Otherwise, it's very smooth and you always feel very secure.

EDIT: the filter won't let me post the pic so just google "rock and roller coaster outdoors" and it is the first thing that pops up.

This is RNRC. Its a stock coaster disney bought. If you like coasters it is pretty good. If you are not a coaster fan you will hate it. I like most coasters, but to be honest RNRC jounces my head back and forth pretty rough and gives me a major headache. We only ride it once per trip.

As or the upside down parts my dad INSISTED it never went upside down. It is very quick and not very extreme. :)

ETA: I agree with the last poster. It does bounce your head around quite a bit.

Not a coaster fan. I thought it was smooth, but intense. I'm not real big on Space Mountain either, but prefer it slightly to RNRC.:earsboy:

My friends said the same thing - they swore they never went upside down! So funny. RnR is very smooth. The important thing is to keep your head back against the headrest during the "catapult launch" or it can snap your head back pretty significantly. I love RnR!

In comparison, I won't even ride SM anymore. I find it very jerky and don't like the fact that you can't see the curves and turns coming (and therefore can't lean into them to minimize being jerked back and forth).

VERY smooth ride! I had a hard time with Space Mountain this year and RNRC was a cinch in comparison for me. Can't wait to ride it again!

I don't like coasters, but have gone on them all from Disney, to Busch Gardens, and everything in between :sad2: I do this because my daughter and I are usually at the parks alone, and she LOVES coasters.
That being said, I hate Space Mountain. My butt pops up off the seat sometimes and I feel like I'm going to fall out! It's rough and bumpy!
RnR though, is very smooth as others have said. I hold my breath through the take off (whew!!), and the rest is easy-ish. It's funny because the first couple of years we went to Disney I would keep my eyes closed during the whole thing because I was scared. Then one year on my dd's 7th birthday, the cms let us go through the cm door, and ride over and over and over and OVER again. 10 times.. no kidding (this was about 10 years ago and in early Dec. Very empty at the time). Well about ride #7 I started to peek... and wow, all the neon lights! It's pretty in there!
So now I keep my eyes open, except for take off. Eyes closed, holding my breath....

I agree it's smooth, but I say it's dark. The signs illuminate as you approach/pass because they light them with ultraviolet light. Otherwise it seems very dark to me. You cannot see what's coming.

That said, it's the best minute at Disneyworld.

The initial takeoff is crazy fast and intense. I hated it and will never go on it again, and I'm not a roller coaster expert, but I do like them for the most part. From what you've said, I can't imagine that your Ds would like it.
