I have an almost 9yo daughter, Victoria, who is completely precious. But, boy, she's solid as a rock and already a carb-aholic.

I don't want to deprive the child, but she hate P.E. and cries b/c she can't do sit-ups and she's always the last one to finish running her laps.

Can you give me some specifics about the plan that you and your son agreed to? Do you give him rewards? Does he cheat? I'd love to have all the info you would be willing to share.

I don't want to be extremely restrictive b/c I'm not sure it's healthy, but I want her to feel good about herself and her size. She's a 2nd grader and wears a size 12 girls pants and shirts.

Thanks for any help.

I have an almost 10 year old daughter who is heavy. Thank goodness JC Penneys has plus size clothes for girls, but there are clothes at other stores that she likes but just don't fit her or look good on her. We have tried watching her carbs but it is hard for her to have the discipline (it's hard for me tob have the discipline). She'll have a really good day and then she gives in to her likes for carbs the next day. I too would like to know how you have handled this with your son. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Do you have a rewards system?

I too am interested! My 5 year old DD (6 next week) Kindergarten is "rock solid" as well - whoever thought that I wouldn't be able to pick up my 5 year old and put her in bed or carry her in from the car?? She was tall enough at 4 1/2 to ride TOT (and LOVED it) as well as the majority of the other rides at WDW - I think the dinosaur Prime... whirl was the only thing she wasn't tall enough for.

I'll be watching this thread with interest.

Wow, I WAS that little girl... I do understand.

My son is extremely anal, he either does it all or nothing so to get him on this plan was to let him know the major plusses of the results.

He always thought that a "diet" meant small portions and NO fun food. The first thing I had to do is find low carb replacements for what he liked to eat.

I searched the recipe rooms for things to make, I was a fanatic. The packaged stuff was too expensive so I had to make most of it at home.

He loves chicken tenders so I made him the Parmesan chicken tenders in the Eating Healthy section of WISH. I exchanged his potato chips for pork rinds or Atkins Krispers. I made him turkey bologna sandwiches on low carb bread. I had turkey and cheese rollups ready and waiting for him when he came home from school. I made him koolaid with splenda to take with him to lunch. At home he likes water but only in the squeeze bottles so I refill them with purified water. He likes nuts and strawberries for a snack so that keeps him satisfied.

All in all I feed him about 40 carbs a day, more than I allow myself but MUCH less than he had before.

He now teaches kids in his class how to eat! He lets them taste the brownies and treats I make him to show how good it can taste.

He DID cheat over Valentines day, he admitted it to me solemnly. What he learned from that was how sugar makes you want so much more! The sweets I give him he can eat a little of and he's finished because they don't have that affect like sugar does.

It's a process with anyone especially kids. Just let them know that you're in there with them and that in the very near future they can reap the rewards. I've found that the awards should be emotional instead of tactile, let them know that the rewards are what they will get out of it. And remember, let them know this is a way of life not just a "diet".

Hope that helps! :p

Michael continues to be an inspiration! Does he like the computer? Maybe he should join WISH and start a support group thread for other 'kids'.

Oh, boy.... think he'd KILL me if he knew how much I talk about him... getting to THAT age!

I'm THRILLED that he's getting other Moms on the wagon though. If it helps just ONE family, then it was well worth it!

Thanks Robin!! I'm going to keep working on it with my DD and hopefully if we just give it some time she'll start to see results and want to continue! Today I had some left over diced chicken and when she got home from schools I heated it in the microwave with some cheese and she loved it and asked if I could have it around for her all the time. I guess I'll be stocking up on the diced chicken breast at our next Market Day sale.

Great, Cheryl!

Also, it's good to keep good snacks around for them so they don't feel deprived.

Depending on what your child likes you can adapt a low carb version of it and have it around so they can snack on it regularly.
