Robbed

Sorry, that happened to my MIL not long ago, she was so shaken up, so horribly violating.
Our business was broken into, the cops said the same thing...probably kids! Nope, we saw a neighbors security tape, the guy was about probably about 50 years old.
Another friend of ours got his store burglarized too. He immediately thought kids, the tape showed an average looking businessman 30ish, suit & all!
The cops didn't get either guy, with full descriptions & one license plate #.:headache:

I think Police say "kids" so that it doesn't look like a robbery spree. You know saying "kids" sounds less scary.

I am so sorry this happened to you. Thankfully nobody was hurt and your dog was ok. (poor puppy probably was scared)

Stay safe and I don't think they'll come back if they got what they wanted.

:grouphug:

My sister could have written your post about a month ago. Same thing happened to her. Front door (the one on a busy road) was kicked in and anything of value was gone. Jewelry, change jar, went through meds but nothing good there. They tore the house apart, went through the attic, and even tore open Christmas presents she had wrapped for the grandkids. The police told her they were probably looking for good drugs or taking the stuff to pawn for drug money. She was terrified after that and had a security system installed as well.

I hope you are able to recover your items.

I hope you contacted your homeowners insurance. I would be so upset as well- glad no one was home or hurt.:grouphug:

I'm so sorry to hear that. I know firsthand how terrible and violating a robbery can be. About six years ago we were robbed -- middle of the day they broke in through the french doors on the back of the house and took literally everything they could sell and destroyed/vandalized the rest of my house. We lived in a hotel for a month while the restoration crew fixed things. Worst to me was all the things stolen from my then 12 year old son. How cruel. And all my jewelry -- which was not replaced by insurance because standard policies only cover up to $1000 of jewelry. (didn't know that beforehand though)

Hope they catch your guys, but I doubt much effort will be made. As the police told me, mine was a "victimless" crime since no one was home, and therefore the case goes to the bottom of their huge stack. Sheesh.

We got an alarm system right after the robbery -- every door and window armed. Hopefully that will deter the next thief from my door.

Best wishes.

I know it shouldn't but I am always shocked when I hear stories like this. How can people think they have a right to someone else's things. It's so ridiculous! I am so sorry this happened to you.

I used to do patrols with the PD here and when we went through the citizen's police academy, we were informed that there are more burglaries during the daytime than in the night, because there is less chance of encountering anyone at home. Since most people are at work all day, there is a large window of time, and it is often hours before anyone notices.

The fact that they took medication would lead me to believe that this was a break-in with the intent of acquiring drugs and/or items to be sold or pawned for drug money. I would guess at least one of the perpetrators to be at least 18, as you have to be a legal adult to pawn merchandise.

I don't know where you live, but I currently work for the headquarters for one of the largest pawn companies in the world. Our policies dictate that every large ticket item like TVs are registered with the police department so that they can be located if they come up in a theft report. If you have any pawn shops in the area, and you can prove your TV by having the serial number, etc. You might check to see if your items have ended up there.

Jewelry could be there too, but that will be much more difficult to trace, as most jewelry places will buy gold without getting alot of info on the seller, and they pay cash in hand.

Good luck though. My family was the victim of a break in when I was a kid and it is so unsettling.

For those with or without an alarm.

Leave your television or a radio ON during the day when you are not at home.
Leaving a radio on to a "talk" show is also a good idea in another room.'When a theif comes up to the door or window, they listen to see if they can hear anyone that might be inside the house. Talk radio gives the illusion that 2 or more people may be home so the theif will move on without taking any chances.

Todays appliances like TVs and radios don't use much electricity so you won't even notice your bill. Plus the peice of mind is worth it IMO.

Also, if you won't be home overnight. Leave the light in the Master bathroom on. Gives the appearance the homeowner is home to any burglers.

Happy Holidays! (can you hear the sarcasm!) Glad no one was hurt.

Thought I'd give you a little break-in humor. My Dsis was broken in to when she was first married. They lived in a semi-scary area. When they got home, it was obvious whoever did it spent a lot of time there. They ate their pizza, hung out, went through things. It was obvious all of their CDs had been gone through....and none were taken. We laughed that the robbers found their music unworthy.

Anyway it was probably a neighbor who knew their schedule since they weren't in any hurry. I'd almost suspect someone you knew if they came over a fence into a yard/house they couldn't see. I'd think they knew your schedule to know you weren't home.

Sorry. It sucks!

When our place was broke into we called around to the resale shops. We were able to recover some of the items that way. We also obtained a description of the people that turned them in. I just happened to recognize on of the kids and we eventually caught him! I am sure they are trying to make a buck on the larger items. Also watch Craigslist.

I am so sorry you had this happen!!

I am so sorry this happened to you, I know it totally sucks!

We were robbed 4 years ago and I still think about it almost every day. It was 3am and I woke up to check on DD (who was almost 2) when I heard toys moving and rattling in the downstairs living room. I was petrified, but the first thing I thought of was my DD. I went in and woke up DH and told him to grab the gun. We walked down the stairs with the gun blazing and the burglar got away out our front window. DH ran outside to see if he could find him/chase him while I stayed inside and called the police. Luckily, he only got away with our laptop.

The thing that bothers me to this day is that he could have gotten to my DD. Thankfully I am a very light sleeper and can hear everything. I don't think I will ever get a full nights sleep ever again!

Anyway, we went out and got an alarm system the next day. We had motion dectectors on all of the windows, all the doors and two motion detectors inside. One in the livingroom/dining room and one at the base of the stairs. It cost $$$ but it gave me piece of mind, which you can't put a price on.

I am glad no one was hurt in your situation and hopefully they will catch the scumball.

I am so sorry that this happened to you. It is very scary to be robbed.

A similar thing happened to my Dsis a few years ago. The robbery occurred during the daytime while she was at work and the robbers entered through a back window. They took her TV, computer, jewelry, and a little cash. They also damaged her house and she needed a new bedroom door along with other repairs. They also found several bags of sugar that she had stored away. They emptied all the sugar on her new rugs. The place was a mess.
The police came and dusted for fingerprints which also needed to be cleaned up in addition to the sugar. The robbers were caught. It turned out to be kids in the neighborhood. Dsis was lucky in a way that some of her items were able to be recovered.

A woman in an affluent suburb of my area recently lost her life when she came home early and surprised burglars; they shot her for a TV and an iPod. They were caught the next day. They were schoolmates of her teenaged children, and had very stupidly gone about choosing which house by walking down the street knocking on doors to test who was home. That neighborhood has a lot of SAHM's -- at least 20 people were able to identify them.

Have the police dust your pill bottles; if they pawed through your medicine cabinet they probably left prints on some of the bottles.
