From Mousesavers:

Roaring Forks Snack Bar at Wilderness Lodge closed for refurbishment 1/9/06-late March 2006

For those staying at WL, I would imagine the other 2 restaurants will be esp. busy.

oh that is bad. this was the only place you could get a reasonable priced meal at WL.

I guess ADRs at WC will be must for us the week we're there in Feb. Looks like no walkins, esp. breakfast.

I saw this today, too.
Anybody have an idea what the re-hab will involve?
Being closed for the better part of three months, you'd think it would be pretty major.
It does seem odd to me that WL would go for that long without a quick and (relatively) inexpensive place to eat.

I would think they would set something else up some where else in the hotel. I stayed and the GF years back when they were doing a rehab on their cs place (can't remember the name now) and that is what they did.

I will be there during that time, my first time at WL. :cool1: Is Roaring Forks where you would get snacks, milk, juice, etc to have in the room? If so, where should I plan on getting them now?

you know I almost got upset with your picture. then I realized it was a stuffed animal....

Roaring forks is WL snack bar. You could also get hamburger, pizza, hot dogs, etc to go there.

you can buy some of your snacks in gift/general store. but you certainly can't buy a cooked hamburger there.

We usually do breakfast in the Villa, but I wonder what to do about our refillable mugs!!! I LOVE, LOVE diet fountain drinks!!!

Many grocery items are available in the Wilderness Lodge Mercantile.

Maybe they are making it bigger. Roaring Forks was a cracker box and nearly big enough for the crowd it draws. I don't know how many times the line would be out the door. It is in desperate need of doubling and enlarging the small menu too.

This is great news! We will be staying at the WL for the first time in late April/early May. As we are on the dining plan, we planned on eating a lot of CS breakfasts at the resort. However, I kept reading on these boards about the lack of space and long wait times for breakfast. With this new rehab, it sounds like they will be addressing these issues.

I'm really bummed about this. We purchased the dining plan and were planning to use some of our counter service meals at Roaring Forks. Now I'm wondering if we should switch resorts?

I'm pretty sure RF is a little more like a (small) counter service restaurant...pizza, burgers, chicken fingers, fountain drinks etc. If you want to buy stuff for the room, I believe there's a store for that sort of stuff, or you may be better off ordering from a grocery delivery place or going to the store yourself if you can.

So basically, there's not going to be a pplace for a quick meal. I've had to WL CMs tell me there will be "grab n go" type food available somewhere, but not sure what the selection will be like.

It will be interesting to see what the rehab will entail.

Roaring Forks expanded a few years back. My recollection that this was around 1997. I'm not absolutely sure of the year and I'm sure someone on this boards knows exactly when the Roaring Forks was expanded.

The room that adjoins the main serving area used to be the Arcade.

When the Roaring Forks used to be the one small room it was quite crowded and the line could be way way out the door.

My guess is part of the rehab will do a better job of "marrying" the existing space of the food serving area and the adjoining room

Hi, I did read on another board about this. It was noted that the resort would have available "grab and Go" snacks around the resort and that the other 2 restaurants would not be affected. I think it is great! I think the Roaring forks was the only lousy part of WL. It was always very crowded and not much to choose from. Renovations will be a welcome addition I think! I guess it will reopen in March 2006.

I had no idea that it was already expanded. I had only stayed at the WL after the arcade was taken out and that room was used for the food are. I based my statement saying it was a shoebox after the fact. I couldn't imagine it being any smaller then it is right now. The line goes out the door as of last month. It is really ridiculous.

The expansion didn't increase space to stand in queue. It increased space to present food choices and space for sitting down and eating.

I think it's interesting to point out that until AKL was built, the 24 hour food places at the deluxe resorts were tiny! (And some still are - Captain Cook's at the Polynesian stands out in my mind). But when you look at the Mara at AKL, it's huge! There are TONS of choices as well as registers, and I don't remember there being huge lines there like at RF. The seating area at Mara is also plenty.

I guess WDW designers didn't realize that "deluxe resort guests" also want a 'food court' type place (like they have at the mods and values). Maybe they're realizing that now and trying to implement some changes.

Just my .02!

guess WDW designers didn't realize ...
More like, when those resorts were first built, deluxe guests probably didn't care for food courts as much as they do today.

The lack of good food courts has always been a problem for us when we stay at the deluxes. When you travel with kids, you need someplace to get a quick meal that has many choices.

I remember the RF before it expanded. Did they ever put an arcade in someplace else? My son lost interest in arcades a few years ago (finally), so I didn't notice if they even have one at the WL.
