Just saw this ad in my photo mag. It's called "RoadStor" It's a portable cd burner that allows you to transfer your digital photos to a cd from your cameras memory card. It also lets you view them on a TV and can play DVD's. It coast around 250.00. He's the link to there web site.

Personally, I wouldn't get one. The problems with those are the CDs are bulky, fragile and slow. A more practical solution is a unit that uses a hard drive for storage instead of the CD burner. Faster and holds way more images. There are hard drive models that allow a "slide show" on your TV as well.

Being that the images from high megapixel cameras can be large (my Nikon 6.1mp uses anywhere from 3 to 6 megabytes per image) won't take long to fill up one CD.

And if you care to spend some more money, they have models with built in screens.

The reason I posted this because I see so many threads with people asking where they can get ther images transfered to a cd while they are at WDW. So when I saw this I thought I would let others know about it. So instead of bringing your laptop, or having it done at the park or driving to WalMart I figured this to be a better solution, I do know about portable hard drives, but you still have to have them transfered to a cd like most people would like to have done or have asked where they can have it done.

I can see your point as I've seen those messages as well and it's always a good thing to know what's available.

What works for one person doesn't necessarily work for someone else.

So, the question is, do you want to tote around an external CD burner and CD's or do you want to tote around a portable hard drive? Depends on what your goal is. Is your goal to have someplace to move your photos to free up space on your CF?s, or is your goal to have a portable archiving solution? With the portable hard drives it takes just seconds to transfer the pics, and you don't have to worry about toting around CD's. You can transfer the photos from the portable hard drive to your CD when you get back home.

I've had a similar one for two years now and love it!!. Yes, it's bulkier than a portable harddrive, but it can do things the harddrive can't: During my last cruise lots of my fellow DISers came by to dump their cards on CDs - Their CDs to keep!!
We went to a wedding last year. When the party was nearly over I collected the cards of all people present and an hour later everyone had every picture on a CD.

You make it sound like you have to carry this around with you into the parks, just bring it with you and leave it in the room, cd's don't take up that much room, they are pretty compact the last time I looked, and from the looks of it the size of the cd burner is pretty small. Like I said before then why are people always looking where they can have there pictures put onto a cd while they are at WDW, they have to carry a cd then to, just wanted to point out that there is something out there portable that you do yourself.

I don't think he was talking about carrying it around all day, but more so carrying it with you on trips in general. Either would be a PITA if you carried in around the parks. But some professionals do just that.

I think that people want to put them on CD for several reasons.
One is they don't have a lot of memory cards and it's what they do at home anyway.

Viking does point out an advantage of having a CD burner vs. a hard drive unit though. Beats emailing them around.

That is one advantage, indeed. Again, depends on your goals. A lot of professionals now do this for weddings.

I'm not suggesting you carrying it around with you all day. I leave mine in the room, too. My philosophy is the the smaller it is and the less things to pack the better.

I can't answer why people are looking to have pictures put on a CD. I have a 512 and 1GB CF card, so I rarely run out of room.
