We purchased our first MH, a class C, last summer. We took a few short trips but now have a two week trek coming up. We have taken many a road trip, but always in a minivan with a cooler in the back. We will be driving to the Fort from Minnesota. We are leaving on a Saturday afternoon and hope to be checking in late morning on Monday.

So, for all you experts out there, please tell me how do plan/pack food items? We need some food items for the road trip of course. What do you bring with you and what do you plan to buy at a grocery store once you get there?

There will be 6 adults and 2 kids. We're thinking of making some dishes ahead of time, pre-buying some meat items (I'm really picky about where I buy meat - meat in a tube grosses me out!), etc. and keeping them in a cooler with dry ice to lessen the amount of cooking we have to do. We also have several crockpot meals planned.

So, what do you bring with you and what do you purchase once you get to Orlando area?

My wife tends to pack some things a little different than do I, but generally, as food goes we only pack items that we believe we may not be able to purchase on Orlando, then once we have set up at the Fort, we head to a local Publix.

Congrats on your up coming trip :thumbsup2:thumbsup2
look forward to a trip report :woohoo:

Not exactly.
I take with us the dry items that don't add a lot of weight to the TT or require refrigeration. When we get to The Fort we make a run for meats, drinks, frozen items, etc. If you like good meats I definitely say shop Publix. :thumbsup2

I usually bring enough for 3-4 days and then plan on a grocery trip. We only have a small fridge in our popup so we bring a college dorm freezer with us and plug it in when we get to the Fort - and a 5 day cooler.

yeah,,ain't that what I said .

I do it all....freeze a few meals. Pack all my non refrigerated Items(snacks, canned goods, mac and cheese, cake mix and the staples)....then shop at Publix for the cold items....milk, meat, vegies, fruits and that kind of thing. I'm a big planner so I write out my menu months ahead of time. I bring way too much... could feed an army.

does anyone have the address for the Publix? we usually go to Winn-Dixie but it seems everyone likes Publix better.

Right next to the Outback and across from the outlet mall.

You bake a cake??? while camping??? How do you even fit it into that teeny tiny oven? I'm not judging! I was just truly surprised to see that on your list!

I sure do!!! We always have someting to celebrate! My oven isn't so tiny....a 9/13 fits fine! I do cupcakes more often. I like to cook and bake.

Baking is definitely my thing, cooking not so much. But please don't tell my family that you bake while camping. They might expect the same from me. And at least while we're at Fort Wilderness, that's not gonna happen!

Oh....I won't tell...I'm a Grandma and we take the Grandkids camping a lot and they always have a request.... and being the Grandma.... they always get what they want. Always have muffin, brownie, cookie and cake mixes....just in case. You did notice it's mixes ....My Aunt bakes homemade biscuits every morning for the entire family when we have our reunions at the Fort...maybe 20 people, now that is way over the top.
I do have a Mickey Mouse waffle maker! Wouldn't leave home without it! ;)

I bring some canned/dried/meat for the grill items from home. Once we get to Orlando, we hit a SuperWalmart that is about thirty minutes from Disney, and we stock up. A lot of bottled water, paper towels, fresh fruit, etc. I am not one to cook during a vacation. We bring breakfast foods, some lunch stuff, and snacks. Our longest stay at Disney was fifteen days, without leaving once to go to the store. We don't bring a towed, so once we're there, we like to stay put.

We pass on Walmart meats!!! Bought "leaner" burgers there once and watched them float off the grill and shrink.
