Wondering what’s the best way to stay at Riviera if you only have resale points (not at riviera). Do you rent your own points out and use the cash to rent from a riviera owner, or is there a better way of doing it?

If your resale contract was purchased prior to 01/19/2019, then you can use those points to book RIV at 7 months. That would be the best way as far as OOP costs are concerned.

If you got your resale contract after 01/10/2019, then you can’t use your points at RIV. You could get a transfer of points from another owner whose points can be used at RIV and book the reservation yourself. Or you could rent a reservation from any owner who can book RIV.

You could also pay cash to Disney for a reservation. And TBH, a cash reservation thru Disney will probably be less expensive than a rental, at least while this COVID thing is still a concern. Disney will probably be offering tremendous discounts for their hotels once they reopen.

We don't actually own a contract yet, still in progress so definitely not allowed to use at RIV! Does there tend to be a price difference (at least pre-Covid) in price for renting a booked reservation vs a transfer of points?

I'm on the fence about discounts for hotels when they re-open. I don't think we will see the discounting some people are predicting as I suspect they will have to lower the capacity of both the resorts and the parks, therefore needing to charge more per guest to break even, and lower availability will cause greater demand. Just my own opinion though, if heavy discounts did appear I'd be right in there haha.

There’s an advantage to doing a point transfer when you’re an owner. You control the reservation and are not subject to any “no cancellations/no refunds” policy that a broker or independent owner may have when you rent. You can add guests, change your dates, secure the dining plan on your own if you wish. As far as price, that’s negotiable when you do a transfer of points. Renting directly from an owner can also be negotiated. The brokers are firm on their prices.

Or you can just make your way through the original 14 resort and not stay at RIV until you finish the 14. Or just pay cash using your Disney Chase VISA.

I wish I could but no Disney Chase VISA here in the UK (really wish there was!)

I have never rented points but have been a fan of using transferred points (twice). But that is behind me I believe and I will buy another hundred resale.

What are transferred points? Sorry, new to DVC.

Owners are allowed to transfer points to another owner, The points are then put into your account for use, They retain their own UY and resort, You cant book with them online and need to call MS

Technically, owners are not allowed to be paid for a transfer so If there is a problem, DVC won’t get involved,
