Just got this email:

DISNEY'S RIVIERA RESORT
UPDATE
Dear Disney Vacation Club®Member
,

Since Disney’s Riviera Resort was first announced in July 2017, our Members have continually asked to be kept informed about the newest Resort. With that in mind, we wanted you to be among the first to hear some exciting updates. Construction is progressing extremely well on our new proposed Disney Vacation ClubResort, and it’s currently on schedule to open in Fall 2019.

When it opens its doors, Disney’s Riviera Resort will offer all the grandeur of Europe combined with the magic of Disney. The new Resort will be conveniently located in the heart of Walt Disney World® Resort, and feature unique access to Epcot®and Disney’s Hollywood Studios®, via the new Disney Skyliner.

Important information for Disney Vacation Club Members:
  • This Spring, Members can begin booking stays at Disney’s Riviera Resort with Vacation Points, accessing exclusive, protected inventory which is being held just for our Members. Exact timing will be shared once the official opening date is confirmed.
In the interim, Disney’s Riviera Resort will begin taking rental reservations from the general public this month. To learn more about the new Resort, watch the Disney Parks Blog and follow Disney Vacation Club on Facebook and Instagram for updates.

We look forward to welcoming our newest Resort!

I’ll probably try book this for next January for our Galexies Edge trip just to see what’s it’s like. Anyone else going to try get in on this early booking?

I hope this means we will get more info on room layouts and points per night soon then.

It looks like we will know the room types since it will be available for cash bookings. But the price per point will be announced "this spring".

What is the purpose of sending that email without the details we all want?

Let’s build a new DVC resort and put out minimal details. Then let’s send members an email stating we’re reserving rooms for you to book this spring, but in the meantime we’re going to open it for cash bookings to the public THIS month. There are 13 days left in January.

The punches keep on coming to members. You’d think cash bookings would open up sometime after member bookings, regardless they’re holding back a block. Big whoop.

Cash bookings always occurred before current members. However if you added on directly to the new resort the Cash Bookings started the same day sales did, at minimum, sometimes before. Its important to remember that the inventory is completely separate and DVC does not own the resort yet and only owns as things are declared into the condo. So while the wording seems off Disney is perfectly in their rights and are not taking anything from DVC. So nothing nefarious is indicated in their email. I actually thing the email was meant to calm members and by telling them they are protecting a block of rooms for those that don't add on right away so they can try out the new resort.

You know, the email piqued my interest. I have stayed in every DVC Resort, so yes, I will try to book when it’s first opened for us. Sigh...I though I would not be interested.

Wow! How negative.

Marketing trying to redirect focus away from the new restrictions that are implemented on resale contracts sold starting tomorrow.

Yes it was, but there hasn't been much good news coming from the mouse lately. Crvetter explained it for me and I appreciate that. It didn't seem like the marketing, info, and sale process was like this for Poly/CCV but I guess it wasn't too much different.

I'm only two years into being a member and it looks like its going to be a wild ride.

A BRAND NEW dvc resort being added
The new skyliner system
Galaxies Edge
Toy Story
Epcot enhancements
Refurbs at several DVC resorts
Lots of new restaurants
Great new parking and road system around the NEW Disney springs.

I can go on and on. What can one possibly mean “not much good lately”. Negative

I wondered about that myself. My memory fails me, is it the usual pattern to open for cash bookings first? And if they are opening for cash bookings, when is the opening day?

Most of what you listed is not directly tied into DVC membership. Aren't DVC refurbs funded by member dues? There are over 50 million annual visitors to WDW. DVC members are a tiny fraction of that. My frustration in my original post was mostly due to misunderstanding the process of bringing a new DVC offering on board, which was clarified for me and noted in my second post.

My intent in joining DVC was for the value. It has allowed our family to stay in Deluxe accommodations on property when we otherwise could not. Sure we could stay off property or in values/moderates.

The internet is a place of opinion and yours does not have to line up with mine. It seems like DVC has never been as tumultuous as it has been in the past 2 years. Multiple changes affecting resale buyers. Significant increase to the cost per point of direct contracts. Poly for example opened in the 160's and is now $225? Significant increase to annual dues (I'm aware of the increase to min. wage and am in support of it). The speculation that Disney has been pulling AKV Value accommodations in Dec. 2019 to their benefit. A more complicated ticket purchasing process that requires even more planning. Increased costs to F&B across the board. Charging for parking at resorts (which does not affect members staying on their points at DVC resorts).

I will make adjustments to my vacation plans as Disney continues to make adjustments to their business. I got in at the perfect time and for a GREAT cost so I will hold on to my membership as long as I see the value in it.
