Riviera Resale. Why?

I am curious if anyone here has or would ever consider buying Riveira resale? To me it seems like such a terrible idea especially since with a direct incentive we are probably talking a 20$ difference.

I think that's exactly the point. It'll kill the resale value on it. I think there's significant risk that it in turn kills the direct sales long term, but then DVC is staffed with people who are smarter and more well paid than me so who knows how it'll shake out. What I do figure is that Disney is more focused on the long term, including as these 2042 resorts come up, as opposed to the present day sales.

Yes I want 200 direct points for some benefits and ability to book at new resorts but I really don't think I can stomach those Riv restrictions.

I don't get why anyone would buy any RIV points new or resale.
So you'd buy it new/direct if you were absolutely sure you'd never sell your points, right? But even then, its relative value just isn't there unless you somehow are so enthralled with Riveria as a resort that it's the only place for you.

It really just depends what price you can end up buying them at for resale.....at a certain point it could be a decent value to have easy access to 2 parks with a long contract. Many people buy BCV & BWV points to use exclusively at those resorts but the length of contract is a non-starter for many.

They're actively selling, I think 6, older resorts now on the website with incentives. Check it out.

As I understand it you dont need RIV direct for new resorts. It applies to any direct purchase. They can be used for new resorts.

I have 155 BLT direct and it shows RIV as available resorts when I am looking at availability.

I got 155 BLT direct yesterday as a new member.
I have 2 x 200 point contracts going through resale.

Interesting. 555 points right off the bat is great. Are they all at BLT?

I know this will never happen, but it'd be awesome if they did something where, with these new rules, you could buy X points direct and cover that many resale points into direct, if that makes sense. I know they won't do it, but I'd like them to.

I would buy RIV resale if I wanted to own more there. But, I own 500; SSR points that can be used everywhere and 175 direct at RIV that can be used everywhere, so having some restricted points wouldn’t be a big deal.

Of course, I wouldn’t to save $20...but if they ever get below or near $100, I’d consider it!

They told me today they have points at every resort available. I suspect GCV is off limits but didn't even ask.
With incentives? I know they always sell all resorts but usually don't give incentives on "sold out" resorts.

I don't think I want to know what GCV is direct at this point. lol

Yep - all BLT. I come for 3 weeks every 2 years (from the UK) and have a 1BR

Love BLT so whilst its more expensive nice to have as a home resort.

And decent annual fees.

If you love Riviera and don't want to stay anywhere else, and the discount is enough to be worth never being able to stay anywhere else (so, more than $20 off direct).

I didn't think that would ever be us, but we bought a fixed week at CCV last year because we like it so much. So I can see it, but the discount for being unable to book anywhere else would have to be worth it.

I would pay about $60 for Riviera Resale I think. If it had the CCV point chart and MFs I’d pay $80-$85, but it doesn’t.

If anything ever happens to the skyliner you just have another bus only resort, but unlike the others, this one comes with sky high MFs, an oppressive points chart, and no ability to stay elsewhere.

I just took another look at the point chart. I wouldn’t pay $60. Maybe $45. I’m dead serious.

In many threads recently I have mentioned that I made an offer on SSR resale in the last month (I am waiting on my first DVC contract!) . Part of my calculation was that even if I LOVED Rivera (and Reflections which is now in doubt) the point charts are very negative to me. We prefer 1 bedrooms as we have food allergies ( even though Disney is great about them, getting food from your own Kitchen is great for piece of mind!). RIV has 1 BR for 57 pts or more points during the peak season. Animal Kingdom has 1 BR at 37 for the same time. Other resorts are near 40 pts during peak season.. Is Riv worth 40% more than AKV? I'd rather take an uber to the parks, take the bus back and enjoy the animals at AKV.....
