Riviera or Swan- I know that’s crazy…read on.

We were booked for 8 nights at Swan Reserve and it’s now not going to open in time for our trip, so they moved us to an executive suite at the Swan (big living/dining room and a 2-qn bedroom) to make up for it.
We had a hunch they would open late so I called member services and requested a cash rate studio at the Riviera. We went ahead and booked it. So NOW with the new suite development, it’s kind of a no-brainer to cancel the Riviera to stay in a much larger, less expensive place, right? I know it seems like a simple choice but I was definitely looking forward to the Riviera. We bought there earlier this month and probably won’t stay there for another year. Another thing to consider, I have 5 adults (my kids are 19, 22, 24). Thoughts?? I know very little about the Swan.

Go with the Swan because you can walk to Epcot and HS. Between the boardwalk, dolphin, swan, yacht club, and beach club you have a ton of dining choices. Bigger room vs. studio. iMO

We have stayed at both the Swan and the Riviera this year.

Since you bought at the Riviera, you'll have opportunities to stay there every year. How often are you going to have a chance to stay in an executive suite for the price of a standard room?

Go with the Swan. Both hotels are great, but if you are getting an executive suite for the price of a standard room, take the savings and enjoy the extra space. 5 adults in a Studio is a very tight fit.

I can’t answer as I haven’t stayed in a Swan Executive Suite but I’m wondering what type of room you were originally booked in? I think you’re our first DISer moved due to the delayed opening.

We were in a signature suite. About 610 sq ft, parlor, 2 queens in bedroom, and a bath and a half.
Now we’re in an executive suite, which the hotel told me is over 800 sq ft, 2 queen beds in bdrm, living and dining for 6, wet bar, and 2 full bathrooms.
That was their comparable accommodation. They just emailed us and said sorry and here’s what we’ve done for you. You don’t have to do anything to confirm it.

It’s a no brainer to me. We’ve stayed in suites at Swan/Dolphin and a 1-bedroom at RIV. The rooms at RIV are gorgeous, but the Swan suites are very spacious and the proximity to an array of dining locations, DHS and EP can’t be beat. IMHO, when the Skyliner goes down, RIV loses a bit of its luster. I felt a bit stuck there.

That's why we were hoping to stay there in February when the summer storms are over and things are (slightly) more stable weather-wise, but it isn't available for our dates. We're on the waitlist. In the meantime, we're booked at the Poly.

if you were staying in a studio at RIV, then go with the Swan. I can't imagine 5 adults in a studio room - plus the swan you can walk to HS and Epcot. FYI - when we were there to park close the line for the skyline leaving epcot went all the way back to the Yacht Club.

It sounds like you got something similar to a Governor’s Suite at the Swan. No-brainer to keep it. A Governor’s Suite is a bedroom with a very spacious bath and roll-in shower (at least all the ones I’ve had and it’s the ONLY thing I don’t like about the suite), a living room off the bedroom, then that unit is connected to what I would call a “hospitality suite”. The hospitality suite is a spacious wet bar (you can serve from there, but no cooking devices), a large dining table, then a living area and another full bath (I’m not sure, but the sofa in the living area might convert to a bed?) You also have all the balconies on that floor facing the Dolphin. You have partial views of both Epcot and Hollywood Studios. Oh, and upgraded bath amenities. I like the Westin white tea products, but the Governor’s Suites get another type of product that is higher end. I forget what it is off the top of my head.

I stayed at the swan in January with my son for the first time....... LOVED IT.
I have been a DVC member since 2006 have almost 800 points between SSR BLT RR, although I just added the RR and haven't stayed there yet.

I'm also travel a lot for work and switched to staying in Marriott properties so that I could stay at the Swan and Dolphin of free.

We got a standard 2 queen room.... It worked for the two of us, but I dont know where another adult would have slept.
The hotel is amazing, lots of great places to eat, close to the boardwalk, easy access to HS EP. I have to admit I did not use there transportation though. We normally used Disney transport.

From what I have scene of the Executive suites at other high end Marriott properties you will be much happier at the Swan.
