Every few days I go in on the WDW website and check out the current prices to see if my booked trip dates may have gone down a bit, in case I need to update my price.

Saw this earlier this morning. I know it's only a dollar, but it was very surprising to see that it has surpassed GF!

Was this kind of thing expected? I had no idea...

I mean.. no one should ever pay that price for a room. Rent dvc points and it will be over half that off.

The general public probably doesn't know about the DVC renting, but you're right, that price per night is insane.

Than I hope op looks into it. Could save them alot of money and many threads on here about how to go about renting.

The OP is me ;-)

I was just curious as I've never seen the Riviera overtake the GF in expense. I have no plans to stay at either resort (we're doing BCV because we are doing F&W Fest), it just surprised me and wasn't sure if I missed something or not as to why.

Oh hahaha now I feel stupid!

Actually, I was able to find some REALLY good prices on multi room villas at Riviera that were far lower than renting with a room discount. I wanted to see what it would cost me to rent this time next year and OMG the same room was going to cost me a few thousand more if I rented (looking at multiple sites for points). Renting used to be my go-to for staying in villas when we needed more room, but it feels like the prices have gone way up and now it's not always the best option. Sure, it beats paying rack rate, but when I can get a 1 or 2 room villa for several hundred off a night I'll take that.

Renting DVC points is not as easy as making a normal reservation. It kind of makes me crazy how people throw it around like it's nothing. You have to understand all of the terms and conditions before going ahead with it.
I derailed the post with my dvc advice. On topic tho. Riviera is very nice and might become the new "fancy" place over GF. Maybe once the walkway is built maybe it will add to the cost.

Sure, if you are comparing a standard GF room to a 1 bedroom at Riviera. Hardly apples to apples, if you ask me.
Besides that, I've always thought DVC rooms to be more expensive
but again, it's not comparing the same type of room.

It's hard to know from that screen what it's comparing - it could be a 1 bedroom at Riviera and a club level room at GF. Not exactly apples to apples.

How do we know it is the same type of room between resorts?
Can't be actually.
GF, unless it's part of GFV, is not going to have the same type of room as Rivieria.
And I'm thinking GFV is listed separately from GF on the website but not 100% on that one

Well, the Riviera is better situated for F&W.
I think Disney wants the Riviera to be viewed as equivalent to the GF, whether that happens remains to be seen, IMO.

The dvc rental rates for villas at riveria will be higher because the points needed per night to stay there are higher than most other dvc resorts. That is one of the reasons we won’t buy any points there, or even stay there when your dvc points can go so much further at other resorts that are actually closer to the theme parks.

Take a look at the small print next to the rate. It's showing you the average price per night at that resort, not the lowest-priced room at the resort. The average cost of rooms at Riviera is going to skew higher because much of the room inventory is multi-room villas.

If what you're seeing is the result of a search by date, then you're only seeing what's available for that date. It could be that the only thing available at Riviera that night is a two-bedroom villa.

To get a true comparison, you need to look at specific room types and compare those rates.

Yes, this. Sometimes when I search and list resorts from low to high price, CSR tops many of the deluxes because all that is available for the dates I'm searching for are suites. Heck, right now, the most expensive room when I do the search is at AKL because only a suite is available there as well. Until you click through and see which room category the pricing is for (and to check available discounts), it's very hard to make comparisons.
