Rivers of Light --- Almost Ready for Prime Time

Monday is my day at AK. Guess I'm out of luck this trip. Unless they open it to the public before Dec 2.:(

Well at least the announcement of CM previews is a step closer to the show going public. Here's hoping everything goes as planned.

1) That is pretty much how Joe Rohde and Company thought about the Cast Preview for the pitiful Night Safari.
2) And, it was a dismal failure.
. . . Cast Members didn't like it
. . . News Reviews didn't like it
. . . But, the PR Department still tried to sell the preview as a raging success
. . . The Tree of Life was cute and well done, but the Safari never got close to what was discussed and promised
3) With so much embarrassing news about RoL, they just had to offer some hope.
4) Even if it is just a small ray of hope.
5) And, the ray is so dim, that a flashlight at midnight is brighter.
6) Thus, a Cast Preview with a Not-Ready-For-Prime-Time attraction.
7) As noted by WDW, although this is a Cast Preview, there is NO date for a public show.

2) dismal failure that's still going
. . .People do seem to like it
. . .not everyone doesn't like it
. . .i don't know what they were supposed to sell it as, it's a night safari
6)I don't think they would show it if it wasn't ready to be shown.

6) I don't think they would show it if it wasn't ready to be shown.

1) Valid statement, but the project is so far behind schedule, they need to show SOMETHING.
2) The "Executive Preview" I saw looked good.
3) The technical issues of performance seemed to be corrected (like the water-curtain low pressures).
4) But, they still do not want to have the expense of drivers.
5) So, this makes the automatic/automated program unworkable.
. . . sometimes human involvement is better than automation
. . . but, then there is the pesky problem of costs for labor and benefits
. . . and we ALL have seen evidence of where WDW eliminated people and their associated costs
. . . drivers in floats have been disguised previously, and possibly should have been provided for this attraction
.
6) Having eleven (11) patents, I can tell you that things always don't work as one initially thought.
7) Especially when they terminated Imagineers en-masse, and now leave much of the designs to outside contractors.
. . . outside people do not have the experience with current or past systems
. . . they don't know or remember past failures and ways to correct them
. . . so, systems are designed and finding a fix is REALLY difficult and highly involved
. . . and people like Rohde just keep making excuses to get around the public embarrassment
8) I can remember trying to debug sophisticated braking systems for semi-trucks and trailers
. . . we had to find a way to sense danger, slow or stop the loaded truck, and still prevent jack-knifing
. . . things got complicated pretty quickly
. . . it took years and a lot of wrecked test vehicles
. . . of course, an amusement park ride should be far easier of a thing to debug (I think)
. . . there should fewer variables to account for and overcome (I think)

NOTE: I use the phrase "(I think)" because I do not know the systems involved in the ride and would not even try to guess all the issues. I am just trying to apply some common sense from my BIG TRUCK transportation experience. Of course, common sense is good to ASSUME issues, but doesn't provide solutions . . and we all know what you get when you ASSUME.

Not to be inflammatory; but have we lost the ability to structure conversation through sentences and paragraphs in this thread?

Citing opinion in a numbered list doesn't make it fact or authoritative.

Its honestly a lot easier to read then some of the other posters on this web board (not this thread) who just ramble on in mass wall of text. And I think most people know how dissect a post and separate what might be factual with what is probably opinion or speculation.......................or am giving the general DIS population too much credit ;)

My point wasn't about how people might perceive it. It was more about how it was projected. I guess the numbered list does help after all... :rolleyes1

We did the night safari 2x on our trip last summer. There is definitely an optimum viewing window. The first time we went LATE and it was a big fat fail. The "fake sunset" was just a glaring fiasco of fakeness. It was too dark to see any animals (IMO they need to offer night vision goggles once it's REALLLLLLY dark outside). The 2nd time we went RIGHT AT SUNSET and it was one of our best safaris EVER - tied with one we had a couple of years ago where the male lion sat up & roared. We saw tons of animals moving about & best of all the female lions were running around & playing & chasing each other just like house cats!! They jumped from rock to rock & ran around the rocks playing tag like regular cats. It was VERY cool.

I really think night vision goggles would make all the difference in the world on this attraction tho. JM2C.

I'm going to refrain from giving my opinion of that style so that you don't have to give me an infraction. ;)
Rteetz is actually the best when it comes to letting posters express their opinions, even if you are disagreeing with him. I cannot commend him enough for that. Now some of the others :rolleyes1 well they are probably watching me right now :duck:

As an editorial comment:
1) I do the "Andy Rooney" style of comment (for those who remember him).
. . . newspaper syndicated columnist
. . . 60-Minutes (Sunday-TV) commentary
2) I try for short declarative statements.
3) I did this in business meetings and do it to this day.
4) After running multi-national companies (USA, Europe, Asia), it served me well.
5) In retirement, I am not am not about to change . . . unless VERY well paid to do so.
. . . Bids from anyone?

:cool1:
