Riveria closeout

The key for me is to have some direct Riv points. That way the resale points can be combined with your direct for Riv stays, or be used instead of direct points, freeing those up for other resorts.

There is no way that I will ever have a year that I don't stay at Riv for at least ONE trip, so having a small number of resale points makes sense in that respect.
Makes perfect sense to me!!

I would do the latter and borrow the resale this way I might be able to finally bank something but probably not lol

^ fixed it for you (lol)
We own at BCV and VGC and the BCV IG is so so so much faster than VGC’s main entrance these days…even with the walk from the furthest Villa, time saved in security makes it even faster.
.... ssshhhhh... for breakfast, I think if you arrive at open…
And that’s how the tradition of rope dropping Toppolino’s began…
I agree re Boma! Great coffee.

I did not like the Kona coffee at Poly. I think a lot of it comes down to what type of coffee you drink on the daily. I'm a French Roast drinker, so I dislike anything with a "tangy" finish.
I am never sure if any of the specific coffees should be blamed or simply the Florida water. 😵‍💫
Either way, I solve the problem by ordering outrageous lattes that have at least 4 ingredients to hide the taste of the coffee.
ETA: And for those that didn't know Riviera has a beach, you'll pass it on the way!
[jack skellington voice] What’s this? What’s this!

Can you see it from the skyliner as you’re cruising along the Caribbean Beach segment?
My husband dismisses staying at RIV. In his mind it can’t compete with BWV loctaion. He also loves VGF. That’s his fav….He can’t see it though. So I need to play the game. He’d book if I really wanted to try it, or if the kids asked to stay there. But it will also be doing him the favor lol 🤣 I bet it’ll end up one of his top preferred resorts.
See my fear is that after my husband actually stays at RIV he’ll start complaining about staying at BCV…so we may not be staying there until the late 2030s…
See this could get me! I want my coffee asap and dont want to go hunting it down. Grabbing at the Skyliner station is a game changer!
Love to grab an afternoon latte at the Joffrey’s transfer station…but I would assume that line is INSANE between 8-9AM….does anybody know?
Yep. The button shows up during the time you qualify. It’ll show up the same as these buttons:

Those buttons can be accessed by clicking on a room after searching a date range.
Just left BCV on Monday. Gonna try to check this out.

Yes, it is.
Looks like at least a 1 mile circuit from the hotel, I’m my sense of scale is right? Your description sounds so lovely… and the whole CB area looks incredibly charming from the skyliner, but there’s never been a WDW trip where my body (especially feet and legs) don’t feel like it’s falling apart by the flight home. We tend to do 18,000-25,000 steps a day, this trip we averaged higher than that, crisscrossing EPCOT for F-Arts activities.

I think that is about right - definitely not more than a mile. And, I hear you on that feeling of exhaustion after a day in the parks. I can't remember whether we did it on more of a non-park day or not. I think maybe we did. Or course, my kids are still young enough that they get strollers for park days, so they sometimes need Mom and Dad to dig a little deeper after pushing them around all day and do some more things to wear them out!

Maybe you already know this, but if you're at RIV and don't have a reservation, I think you can also just join the walk-up wait list from the MDE app. I want to say I checked it a few times on our last trip, and the app was estimating a table in as little as 10-15 minutes. Never actually made it, so don't know how accurate that was.

We have only been one time, back before DVC, we took the Skyliner over from Pop. I remember walking the grounds and being like this is how the wealthy live. Wishing it could be me.

I have always been able to get a seat in the bar area as well. It's high-top tables, so that may be a challenge for some, but it's always been available when we decide to eat at Topolino's - even if the walk-up list is closed.

Not all of the bar seating is at the bar - they have high-top tables behind the bar as well. So you don't have to eat your steak with the bartender watching you :)

Yeah my first contract was Riviera direct, so I had direct points. But when we decided to add on some more Riviera points it was a tough decision for us. We plan to only use these points at Riviera, but 40 plus years ... we just couldn't get past what might change in the next 40 plus years. So we decided to do direct. While it was absolutely much more expensive, the extra cost we paid when we bought is the only difference. You don't save money over the years with resale even though your points are heavily restricted. Given the amount of time left on the Riviera deed, it made sense for us to buy direct for our add-on as well. But we looked long and hard at resale as well.

That’s been my thought process as well when I’ve added on at Riviera. In theory resale should be A-Ok if you know you’re going to stay at RIV anyway, but it’s definitely hard to pull the trigger on those restricted points.

Really? Maybe we got lucky, but the couple of times we've stayed we parked right under the building and took the elevator up to close to where our room was. Also, I believe they had luggage carts at Kidani as well down there (maybe they weren't supposed to be there?)
We had to park on the southern-most part of the outside parking lot (the rest was full), and then our room was in the second-to-last wing on the north side. I'm pretty sure it was at least a 17 mile walk.

I'm increasingly happy that I've settled on a half-and-half hybrid RIV ownership. I have enough annual points to cover my primary "get out of winter" annual trip in a 1BR, but through banking, I can use two years of developer one year, and two years of resale the next, alternating between Riviera and "Somewhere Else".
This is exactly what we had been doing prior to moving to Florida. 1 year vacation at RIV to burn through our resale RIV points, while banking the direct points. Then vice versa the next year, when we would go to Aulani or a different resort at WDW.

Now that we live in Florida and go for a day or 2 much more often, though, it's all screwed up and I haven't figured out the most efficiant strategy yet.

That is us as well! And I have to wonder if a lot of owners who have resale RIV have other points as well.
