Alright guys, so we are very light and sensitive sleepers so this one is important to me. I actually liked that the AKV rooms were dark because we both slept like babies. The Grand Floridian Villas had a light above me that made it difficult for me to sleep because I couldn't cover it like I could with a shirt at CCV because the smoke detector light was facing down and not sideways. And Yes I know im not supposed to do that, but that's how light a sleeper i am 🤣🤣

So onto my question, I read that the Riv has a lot of lights in the room at night and the curtains dont really help block outside light from coming in because they are more for decorative purposes, is this true?

Also read that the PIT rooms walls were very thin and you could hear everything going on in the other rooms. Is this true? Also when staying at PIT, do you have to go to the Poly front desk to get things done or can everything be done at PIT lobby? I found that at VGF i had to go to the GF lobby a lot for things when I stayed there and I didn't like that. Not trying to trash any resort, these were just my experiences when we went And im trying to choose a home resort carefully that fits us and I may not be able to actually stay there before I choose, although i did tour both rooms. Please let me know! TIA 😊

I have always been able to get the room dark in RIV in terms of bedroom.

I know some bring a clip for some of the resorts to ensure the curtains don’t open.

But, to be fair, I can sleep through anyting!! lol

Fellow light sleeper here. I think this is really luck of the (room) draw vs the resort overall. Some love AKV and I had the absolute worst stay there due to our room’s location near the elevator but had zero issues at VGF, CCV and RIV 🤷‍♀️

I’ve learned to bring a sleeping mask and earplugs no matter where I stay. It really helps. I can’t speak to these locations but at BCV and Kidani it was so quiet at night; I slept great. Though I think our thermostat at BCV was broken; it was 70 but felt like 63. Had to cuddle for warmth those nights.

I know online reviews some people complain about nothing so I wanted to verify lol

You're right ill make sure to request not to be near an elevator, that hasn't happened to us yet 🤣

Definite light sleeper. I always wear ear plugs in hotels. I don't like to, but I have to because I'm also listener to my fellow roommates. 8-) I have yet to be disturbed by other room noises during the night. The main culprits have been the thermostat glow and charging magic bands. Why must they flash in bright colors?! I end up not charging them.

We recently stayed in a non-dvc room at the Destino Tower - the glow from the new thermostat was unreal. Even my husband mentioned it and he is a deep sleeper. There is no way to shut it off.

I have stayed at Riviera without issue, but I have not had the chance to stay at PIT yet.

My advice would be to pack plugs, a mask, and request away from elevator.

I found that the curtain setup at Riviera seems to make the room noticeably darker than any other resort I've stayed at thus far. In regard to sound I'm definitely a light sleeper and have noticed I sleep great on our trips because of my daughter's sound machine; it really helps drown out any random sounds amidst an otherwise quiet setting.

Yess same here the thermostat glow is the worst offender to me 🤣🤣 I always hang a shirt over it, but we had to call maintenance because we had issues with the heater at CCV and I forgot we had that over it and the smoke detector and he looked at me like I was crazy and asked why I was doing that 🤣🤣 magic bands are easier for me to hide but throwing that shirt over the detector can be a challenge especially if on the ceiling 😬😬.

So when I saw someone post that Riv had all these kitchen lights and lights everywhere I was like nooooo, but then I thought if i stay in a one bedroom I should probably be clear of that. Surprisingly I've never thought about bringing earplugs or a mask, but I definetely need to!

I'm happy that not one person has told me that it's an issue. When I read that on Google I felt sad because that was the resort I really wanted, but the op seemed like she was having other issues as well and was sour 🤣🤣

While I wouldn’t say I’m a light sleeper I know my wife is and my son is a loud sleeper (he talks and yells in his sleep). It’s very funny. He used to sleepwalk too but he’s outgrown that.

When we were at the VGF at New Years I brought a small JBL speaker with me. iPhones have a built in white noise feature that I put on through the speaker via Bluetooth. It was great at drowning out any hallway noise, which was nice. We all sleep with fans on at home too. It was helpful. I use one of the hangers with the clamps from the closet to keep the curtains shut and that works well too.

I think I'm going to look into one of those owners lockers. I am the type that is always freezing as well. Maintenance claimed that the heater goes up to 80 degrees, but I wasn't feeling it in some hotels. Again, the AKV one was perfect for us, but ccv felt cold. They tried to blame it on us being from California and 80 degrees feels different there than in Florida. I don't know, I thought 80 degrees was 80 degrees 🤣🤣 I think they were expecting me to say I was from Alaska 🤣🤣 anyways I think I would benefit from bringing my own mini heater and the other items suggested!

I can sleep through most anything, but am married to a very light sleeper. So we've worked through all kinds of potential solutions to try and keep the room dark and quiet. She finds AKL to be the best for sleeping. We have clips for the curtains, small towels for the thermostat, we unplug radios/phones when possible, and use pillows for the lights on TVs! And all that doesn't matter much when that family coming back at midnight from extended hours is yelling all the way down the hall, and banging their door closed! It really is luck of the draw on 'quiet'!

I thought the curtains at RIV worked well, as do the ones at the old Poly rooms which as a poly owner you would have access to.

I will say this though, one of the things we LOVE about the RIV is how close and convenient everything is.

We just got back from staying in one of the old Poly rooms and made the trek over to look at the PIT. The communal areas are beautiful, but all the stuff is at the old GCH. At the PIT you get one sit down restaurant, and a pool with a teeny splashpad, and the better drink refill station... but the restaurant is crowded and if you want QS it's back to the main lobby or the pool bars by the old pools. We were actually really glad we weren't over there because the transportation (like the perk of the monorail) is killed by how far it is. We love using the TTC to go to EPCOT, and even the bus stations are way over on the other side of the main lobby from the PIT. So convenience takes a MASSIVE dive at that new building. Sure is pretty though.
I mean I'm pretty sure even the longest possible walk to the bus or skyliner at RIV is going to be shorter than a good case catching transportation from PIT.

This is totally us with the unplugging and pillows and towels everywhere. I'm thinking the one bedroom would be better for us than a studio cuz at least the kitchen wouldn't be bugging us lol

I fully agree with all this. Loved the lobby, loved the rooms, but I could tell the convenience factor wasn't there. I like baylake and Riviera because they are there own hotel with their own full service lobby. I saw the iPad deal at the PIT, didn't utilize it, but I could tell it was going to be a lot of back and forth at Poly. The Moana splash pad is so cute, but we won't be utilizing that. So all the transportation needs to be used from the main Polynesian correct? I just don't see it being a good fit and I'm glad that people are saying that the RIV sleeping isn't a problem

We stayed at PIT first week of February. Fifth floor deluxe studio theme park view and it was fabulous. So quiet and very dark for sleeping. Walls didn’t seem thin at all. Couldn’t hear anyone and sleep great every night.

VGF is a very noisy building in my experience. I wouldn't recommend it for a light sleeper. Wife and I were fine with our tabletop fan running, but a light sleeper would be miserable I'd say.
