I was just in our store looking around...of course my head is spinning more..
I was plesantly surprised to hear their store wasn't closing. He said the area that was hit hard was their boating division?? They cut back some stores but were still going to be staying....

That is what the guy at my local Circuit City said after they decided to close half of their stores last November. Look what happened the the other half only a few months later. I grew up in a town with a Mom & Pop camera shop. Those are few and far between. They all got put out of business by the Big Box stores and the internet. There is only one good store here in Tampa and it is not that convenient to visit.

Our local Wolf/Ritz is one of the ones closing. They've been having the sales to blow out their gear - started with the typical 10% off stuff, but lately have moved up to 25-50% off everything. We were fortunate to have a relatively high traffic store of the ones closing, since it's in a high-end mall...so though our store often runs out of stuff on sale, it keeps getting more in stock from other Ritz/Wolf stores nearby that can't clear out their goods.

Yesterday I picked up a $300 flash for my DSLR for only $190. So there's a silver lining in every story - our store is unfortunately closing, but the upside is I got a nice flash for cheap!

they dont have this one cheap do they
Sony HVL-F58AM Flash

Actually, they do. They had the 42 and the 58 in stock - I went with the cheaper 42 as I don't use flash often enough to justify the more expensive model.

I don't remember the price though - I believe it was a similar markdown to the 42...something is making me remember a price in the low $300s...but don't take my word for gold.

are you serious.. I need one of those in my hands by friday..

Have you tried calling any local Ritz or Wolf stores to see if they have them?

Either that, or maybe plan a little trip to South Florida. ;)

I wish I could do that,, a friend at work is going to WDW in 3 weeks and getting engaged, I've been asked to go take pictures, but don't think I can make it happen

The Ritz/Wolf Camera in my area has VERY low stock levels. Went to look at a camera bag, that's in their catalog, and of course they don't carry it. I don't know why I even bother to go to that store.

Research online prices before going to Ritz because a lot of the supposed deals aren't deals at all. The same liquidation company is running this that ran the Circuit City liquidations, and they mark up the prices before taking the percentage reductions. Since Ritz is already about 50-100% marked up above online prices (plus tax), it's going to take a steep discount to bring them back in line with normal prices. It is their 4th week in the liquidation process now, so some of those prices might be good.

Good riddance to Ritz (I know they aren't "done" yet, but I don't think their bankruptcy reorganization could possibly be a success). I hope more of the way over priced B&M camera stores that prey on customer ignorance to sell junk accessories for astronomical prices follow suit and go under. If only Best Buy would suffer a similar fate.

We have some staying and some going. The one at the mall is safe, but all the ones inside a Boater's World are toast. I stopped by one today and got some deals. Got a Sigma 28-80mm macro for $20, a Quantaray branded Cokin P series adapter for $7, a 4x gradated ND filter for it for $17, and a Disney pix print for $18. I then found Cokin blue/red polarizing filter on clearance at Adorama for $17 and thought it might be an interesting filter to play with. It was originally $50.
