Rip Video Portions From Planning DVD?

DS's 3rd grade teacher invited all the Dads to come to the class to read, or show something, or talk about something, ... being a divorce lawyer I felt it would not be a great topic to talk about what I do for a living. Especially since one of the kids in the class in the child of a client of my firm! DW and DS both suggested I talk about the Disney Cruises (a trip you have taken was another suggested topic category).

I want to try as best I can to get a little multi-media. Is there anyway to "rip" a video segment off the planning video to incorporate it into a custom presentation I am making? Or should I stick to still images on a powerpoint (I can barely create a powerpoint, but I think I can get it done since that is what I used to make a couple of door signs for the last cruise).

I plan on using the decent sized library i have on disk of photos I have downloaded from various albums (usually off links from here, most of the time), but if anyone has an album with shots of the ship or the ports (not so much of your family, considering the context of my presentation) and you are particularly proud of your photos (I am also camera-challenged as well as technology challenged), please do post those links on this thread.

And finally--does anyone know how to install the disney script from that Tagrel.com page where I have found CM appreciation cards to put into the tip envelopes along with the tips. There is a link, but the last time I tried to download, I got a message about something being corrupted--anyone know an alternate source?

And I do already have good access and saved samples of Disney clipart, thanks!

Yes it can be done.You_willfirst need to rip the files off of the DVD. This cannot be done in explorer, you will need software to do it. The good news is it is free. You need DVD Decrypter. Onceripped you still can't do anythingwith the files. You can play them off your hard drive with a DVD player but that is about it. DVD files are differant than most video files you use with computers. Most are .VOB and can't be played or edited. You will need to convert the VOB to another format like MPEG2 or uncompressed AVI.
You can buy AVS Video Converter to do this.
I have used it on the latest WDW DVD.
Once converded the video ripped from the DVD can be edited.

Most are .VOB and can't be played or edited. You will need to convert the VOB to another format like MPEG2 or uncompressed AVI.

Just a quick note on this: VOB files actually are MPEG2 files. If you rename the .vob to .mpg, you can usually play them directly in Windows Media Player. You still may need to convert them to something like an AVI if you want to edit them effectively, depending on what you are using to edit the video.

I have done that but the quality was poor. when you rename it to an mpeg, it still converts it. better to convert with a quality converter.

Like AVIs not all MPEG file extensions are the same. Compresion settings will dictate how and if it will play in an editor.

after reading the replies, I bow down and declare that I am not worthy of your technological know-how. I also report that no matter how hard i try, i cannot make all the detailed directions for installing the Walt font work, even though I am fairly sure I have downloaded the file, and even paid $29 for win zip. Like, I follow all the directions, and then then next step says "then choose file, and install" and when I do, there is nothing to install. So I quit unless and until I can find a handy dandy local friend to do it for me.

And the video/movie stuff--wow!--looks like Ms. Temlock's 3rd Graders will have to suffice with still photos imported into a powerpoint--without text inserts in Walt script, of course! Its okay, I can play the horn from the computer, too, so that will be fun.

There is a concurrent thread where folks have posted their photo pages and I am stealing from everyone--the funny thing is how for the most part, we all take the same shots, just some folks have better cameras or more knowledge of photographic technique--and even that "knowledge" distinguishing characteristic is taken care of somewhat by the equipment.
