RIP Thread

RIP a true America hero, Darrell “Shifty” Powers.

Powers, who died at 86 on June 17, served as an Army paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division’s 2nd battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, “Easy Company,” during World War II. Many of you learned of his heroic exploits by reading the 2001 Stephen Ambrose book “Band of Brothers” or by watching the 10-episode HBO mini-series of the same name.

If you have seen the show, you know who he was, even if you didn't, he was one of the "greatest generation, and a hero of WWII.

There aren't many of them left.

The world's oldest man and one of the last surviving World War I servicemen, Henry Allingham has passed away at the age of 113. Born in 1896, Allingham became the world's oldest man in June.

Can you imagine being 113? a teenager for the second time

Bruce Rossmeyer died on a motorcycle accident in Wyoming on the way to Sturgis, he was hit by a truck pulling a camper.

Given the choice, I bet Bruce would choose to go on his Harley. When my number is up, I think I would like to be on my scooter. RIP Bruce.

I did not realize it was That guy - I remember all the billboards on the way to the Fort, seeing his dealership.

When we hit Yellowstone in 2006 it was during the Sturgis Rally and the place was full of riders. When we passed through the Washburn area on a switchback one afternoon, we came across the rangers setting up to rappel down a cliff because a rider had gone off the edge. His girlfriend/wife was standing near the stone wall, but it appears the bike and rider went over. Best I can tell from the marks on the road, it looks like someone traveling in the direction we were heading was paying too much attention to the scenery while rounding the corner and forced the bike over the edge. Not a good scene.

RIP Bruce
