Taylor Hawkins, for 25 years the drummer for Foo Fighters and best friend of frontman Dave Grohl, has died during a South American tour with the rock band. He was 50.​

There were no immediate details on how Hawkins died, although the band said in a statement Friday that his death was a “tragic and untimely loss.”​

​

Foo Fighters had been scheduled to play at a festival in Bogota, Colombia, on Friday night. Hawkins’ final concert was Sunday at another festival in San Isidro, Argentina.​

Colombia’s Prosecutor’s Office released a statement Saturday saying toxicological tests on urine from Hawkins’ body preliminarily found 10 psychoactive substances and medicines, including marijuana, opioids, tricyclic antidepressants and benzodiazepines. It did not provide a cause of death and investigations are continuing.

New reports say that he had an enlarged heart about double the size that he would be expected to have. This is the original source (a Colombian news magazine) and I ran it through a translator. I'm wondering how it wasn't diagnosed earlier. He should have been on meds for this.

A human male heart is typically between 300 and 500 grams. So his was somewhere between 1.2 and 2 times as large as normal. So either only slightly larger than normal or much larger than normal.

In a Rolling Stone article last year, Hawkins said his heart was ’big’, and that his doctor attributed it to an ‘runner’s heart’. (Does anyone know if he was a runner?) He also stated his doctor thought had sleep apnea.

I have been sad all weekend because of this news. Truly, my favorite band, and if asked whom I would want to invite to dinner at my house, it have been Dave and his wife and Taylor and his wife. The stories that they'd be able to share! Plus, they are foodies, so I could impress them with my cooking.

As for the running... when he OD'd before, and said he'd given up drugs, he turned to mountain biking to clear his head.

So whats your opinion is this the end of Foo Fighters? It just seem Taylor was the glue that held it together. Dave and Taylor had this huge bromance going on, they all have so many side projects that I think Dave will not continue as Foo Fighters. So glad we saw them in 2018, Taylor was amazing.

The were scheduled to play at the Grammys on April 3rd. Nothing has been said about it being canceled. I wonder if Taylor's son, Shane, will take the drums that night, if any of them are able to do it, at all. What a beautiful tribute that would be to his father.
