I wasn't going to even respond to this, but changed my mind. There is no reason for you to speculate why this poster decided to stop "Strange but True" lists. I think it's a disservice that incorrect information is getting passed off as "true". As one who studies urban legends quite extensively, I feel it's almost rude of me not to get the actual truth out there.

Who cares? Really? Who REALLY cares whether or not Donald Duck was banned for not wearing pants. It was just something fun she did. I saw your original reply and bit my tongue as not to start anything on that thread but I just rolled my eyes. Just more of the "holier than thou" crap. You posted that so you could feel better about YOURSELF. Not to do anyone here a service. Great, now I know that Donald Duck WASN'T banned for not wearing pants. WHEW! I wouldn't want to spread THAT terrible rumor. Please.

She isn't posting anything SERIOUS that might harm someone if they believed it to be true. It is all silly stuff and really, you didn't have to say anything. However, if you are going to lay it out....lay it out honestly. Being the party pooper is fun and it makes you feel nifty. You may have not meant to hurt her feelings but I think ANYONE could figure out that might just hurt her feelings.

Actually Strawberry, technically the way you wrote that statement is a command. Ask any English teacher. And therein lies the problem. Since when did good manners become "filler?" People really need to be careful with tone, especially when they type because, while you know what you mean, most of us cannot read minds from this side of our computer screen. That should be taken into consideration.

MosMom, you really hit the nail on the head.

I do strongly feel that correcting misinformation is extremely important. I don't do it to put others down, make myself feel better, be a troll, or to just plain be a jerk. I do it because it means a lot to me and I enjoy sharing information, much like the OP likes sharing these fun tidbits. Of course, the world won't stop if no one know the truth about Donald Duck, but I didn't share that info to save the world, I did it because I enjoy the quest for knowledge and hoped to share it with others. Saying that I'm doing it for myself and that I have a "holier than thou" attitude is not only unfair, but it's completely untrue.

My only crime here is pointing out false statements that were put forth as the truth. Some may take issue with my wording, but I've explained that rudeness and ill will were not my intentions.

Strawberry Lemonade, I believe that you sincerely did not mean to cause harm by disputing the "strange but true" facts. On the other hand, I can understand why ILUVDXL feels uncomfortable posting them any longer -- honestly, the climate on the boards these days with people jumping all over each other for the slightest little thing, it makes a person feel like they have to walk on eggshells. I'm not saying that you were doing that, in fact I believe you when you say you weren't, but I understand how ILUVDXL might have interpreted it that way. The trend seems to be going that way these days on the CB.

ILUVDXL, I hope you will reconsider. I always enjoy the SBT threads.

Regardless of whether you were being rude or not, these were fun threads and I'm sure the OP meant them to be that. To constantly point out that this one's not really true, that one's not really true is fine, but it's also irritating. If I had been doing those threads, I probably wouldn't have wanted to continue them either (but I still hope she changes her mind). Believe me, when I was reading them I didn't think that everything posted was 100% true (and I'm sure alot of others didn't either), but that's why they were fun. We've got enough real honest-to-goodness facts that slap us in the face every day. Threads like these bring a little welcome levity. Sometimes, I laughed out loud. Humor, it's a good thing, really!

I realize this was all in fun, but I think it's fun to spread the facts. Honestly, I do. If I thought for a second it was irritating, I wouldn't have done it.

The name calling and attacks on my character and motives are hurtful. These deliberate attacks are far worse than any harm I may have caused inadvertently.

Problem is SL, I find some of your other posts to have that same tone of superiority to them. If it was just this instance, I might believe you. Does it really matter what I think? No. If you truly enjoy what you do. Keep doing it but don't be surprised if it ticks people off.

I think it's fair to say that SL has explained herself honestly and no more needs to be said about her intentions. Sometimes it's very hard to hit the right tone while writing. I know I've screwed it up more than once.
