RIP Ron Santo, what an amazing guy/legend

I loved Ron Santo. I met him a few times at the annual Cubs Convention and he was always a class act.

I'm reminded of "A Dying Cub Fan's Last Request":

He whispered, "Don't Cry, we'll meet by and by near the Heavenly Hall of Fame
He said, ..."I've got season's tickets to watch the Angels now,
So its just what I'm going to do
He said, "but you the living, you're stuck here with the Cubs,
So its me that feels sorry for you!"

I know. I hardly ever pay attention to Celebrity passing news but this one hits me hard too. Ron Santo isn't a celebrity to most of Chicago. He was our friend. My flag went up too.

I don't know if I'll be able to turn on the first Spring Training game and listen to Pat announce the end of winter without having Ron there. How can it ever be as good?

I cried when I heard the news. My husband immediately went outside and hug up our Cubs flag in his honor. Mr. Santo, you are and always will be a Hall of Famer in our hearts! Rest in Peace.

I hope you don't mind ... I took this photo and made it into my avatar. I was at that game and it was a really proud moment for all Cubs fans.

Pat's radio interview is completely heartbreaking!

Such a great ballplayer, but what he did in his post-playing days as a champion of diabetes research was amazing. And I don't think I could have carried on with the same courage he showed during all of his health ordeals. Ronnie, we will miss you but will never forget
