Rip, Ride, Rockit!

They don't ask you what row you want; they just plug you in. However, I always make it a point to ask for row 6. That is usually not a problem since they fill the train front to back. Once or twice I have to wait for the next train but no biggie for me. That's the only row I care to ride.

OMG on the video! I've never ridden a train like the rough one and hope never to do so. I wonder if you can hear that as it comes in the station. If so, I'm asking to wait for the next train!

We just got home this afternoon after spending Sat-Mon at HRH. Sat am the line was over 2 hrs long. We debated whether to use single rider lines but finally opted to return 1st thing Sun am. This would be ds9's first big coaster ride and we'd really rather all be together.
We arrived at US at 8:55am thinking we were early and the line had already weaved back and forth, people sitting/lounging in the grass, etc. The ride still didn't start even after the park officially opening. The very 1st group in line walked out after it was quietly announced the ride would not be running by noon-1 at the very earliest.
I confirmed with a staff member so we gave up and went to IOA and had a great time. We'll try some other time when they work all the kinks out and we can use our hotel key for express line. It really has us so spoiled. :cloud9:
I asked if the express line would be open by Christmas and he said that's a good estimate as it would not be any time soon.
Our next visit will be a day trip post DCL cruise in Nov. so no room key but maybe we'll buy express passes if the lines are still long.

Well, I certainly hope the express line opens sooner than that. Four months is an insane amount of time to get a ride working properly. Thats enough time to build a new coaster I would imagine. lol

We are going in October and I was told over the phone that the line would more than likely be open then. Thats an entire month+ to work out the kinks. :)

Here's a youtube video showing the difference between a rough train and a smooth train.

This seems very very strange to me. I sure hope the engineers are on this, this can't be right. There is absolutely no explanation for one train to be rough and others to be smooth, other than the rough trains have to have some defective issues that need attention. It can't be right to just leave them rough? ?? :confused3???:confused3

I do have to say that Timber Wolf at Worlds of Fun used to be the best airtime coaster ever though. I say "used to" as I haven't been there in years, and in the meantime some Darwin Award nominee thought it would be smart to change seats while the coaster was in motion. Although she obviously belonged out of the gene pool, I suspect that her death led to more severe restraints.

I won't even ride the timber wolf anymore. I made the mistake of trying it again this year after a few years without. Everyone walks off holding their head. You cannot even enjoy any of the drops because of it.
I rode the Prowler for the first time last month and it was awesome. Very smooth for a wooden coaster. You should try it out.

I avoid Timberwolf too because of how rough it is. I haven't been to WOF this year so I haven't experienced Prowler yet.

I actually don't do wooden coasters anymore at all. I love coasters, just not the wooden ones, never understood what was fun about getting off a ride to feel like you just went 10 rounds with Mike Tyson, which is exactly how woodies make me feel.

We wont do wooden coasters any more either. When we went to BG last year, the first ride we went on was Gwazi and it shock our heads up so much it gave us really bad headaches and ruined the rest of our day! :sad2:

So sad to hear about TWolf. It seems like parks build great wood coasters, then don't bother to retrack them when they need it. Here's hoping I never end up on one of the rough HRRR trains. So far I have been lucky. :thumbsup2

Yep that sucks, I learned this lesson last time I went to 6 Flags in Dallas, rode the Texas Giant (which used to be fairly smooth) now more rickety than you could dream. Don't even know why they bother making woodies anymore. :confused3

Rode Rockit twice today...both smooth rides, and didn't hear any rough sounding trains. We lucked into singles line just as it opened, then did a standy ride w/an hour wait. Only bad thing was they were running four trains, but the wait time was the same as we've had from the same point with three...the extra train didn't seem to increase capacity. I lucked into row 6 as a single and of course requested it in standby so I had a ton of airtime. My first ride today was actually one of the best I've ever had on that coaster.

Leaving 2morro for my first chance to ride.:cool1:
And got rez at some sweet restaurants.:cloud9:
A nice little end of busy season perk for me.
Thanx for all the tips and info you'all.:thumbsup2

I'm glad someone posted video of a smooth vs a rough ride. :thumbsup2

RRR was running so sporadically and lines were so long when we were there, we only rode once; and darn it... we got a rough car. After that head banging I figured I'd pass from now on, at least until lines become way more manageable. Now I know it would be worth trying again; whenever we decide to fly all the way across the country and back to FL again that is. :rolleyes1

At least we all heard music. The kid riding next to me said he didn't have any sound. Seems kind of strange since I know both seats in the row in front of me worked, as did mine. But they were asking everyone whether they had sound or not when we pulled in, so I know they were aware of problems.

When we rode the other day, we paid attention to all the trains that passed (they were running four) and not one sounded rough so maybe they have taken care of it. For the first time tho' DH had a seat without sound. I haven't had that happen to me yet.

Sad to hear about the bumpy rides. We haven't experienced one in many rides so far, but we've been on a Disney cruise for a few days so we haven't ridden it lately. Hulk is too rough for me...a real head banger. That's why I love Rockit (gotta be row 6), because I can ride it without a whanging headache and aching ears. It will be interesting to see how my next ride goes when we get home. .

My one and only ride on Rockit (8/26/09 ) was in the last row and very bumpy. I have ridden Hulk many times and did not get bounced around like I did on Rockit. I love coasters and will definately give Rockit another try on our next visit.

We were down at Universal in August and missed the soft openings by one day. But, we will be returning at the end of October. We're always "first at the gate" at opening in the morning. Has RRR been operating right at opening so that it would be possible to run there first thing? Or is it still only open at certain hours during the day?
