Rip, Ride, Rockit!

Word on the street (or other boards) is that they have experienced some "major" problems when they ran four trains at once during testing. Expect the opening to be delayed even longer. :headache:

I read that on another board. I'm not sure what to believe at this time. I thought they had already decided a few weeks ago to just open with 2 cars.

I saw a reminder on the other thread about how Test Track opened 2 years later than it was originally scheduled to open. Please no repeats of Test Track.

We DON'T need another Test Track episode!! Ya know...I thought it was safe to say that I would be enjoying riding this on our upcoming trip in October, but at this point I'm not holding my breath.

For DW sake, say its not so.:sad2:

Good Lord, that was such a fiasco. DH dragged me to Epcot on the first day it was officially open and we waiting something like 2 hours. It didn't run right for the longest time; on our first ride, we learned just how fast that sucker can e-stop when it's doing the 65 mph run.

Why oh why why why could this not be a B & M coaster?

I love this B & M anecdote:

Reportedly, when Nemesis ride engineer John Wardley, about to test the roller coaster for the first time, asked Walter Bolliger, "What if the coaster stalls? How will we get the trains back to the station?". Bolliger replied, "Our coasters never stall. They always work perfectly the first time." True to his word, the roller coaster executed its first lap of the track exactly as planned.

I've mentioned this before but seems appropriate again. I've been in line for Test Track probably 50 or more times and only been able to ride about 4 times. Every time, it breaks down right before it's time for me to load. I have never seen a ride with so much down time.

So true.

Oh well, I take small comfort in the fact that Manta spends a heck of a lot of time down too so B & M does have a few zits on their otherwise perfect complexion. DH wants to ride it 100 times by Labor Day and is over there nearly every night, and that sucker breaks down with Test Track regularity. Not sure why, since flying coasters are not new technology.

My parents were speaking to a US TM yesterday and he said they have absolutely no estimate of when it'll be open :sad2:

Is it possible there's a problem with all the music/light/effect synchronising? It sounds pretty complicated.

Yes there are reports of new delays. When they tested with four trains there were major issues that came up.

I wonder if B & M were even in on the bidding when "Project Rumble" was still on the drawing board? I wonder if a B & M design would have had the problems the Maurer Söhne design is experiencing? :confused3

B & M never seems to have any major problems, even with their prototype coasters. I suspect that if they had run this project, the entire lift system would not have had to be scrapped and redone. I remember all the initial hype about the all-new, high-tech system complete with a special evacuation system if it was ever necessary. Now it's just a regular old lift. B & M just seems to have the knack for developing new technologies that work. I remember the Batman prototype as it was being built at Six Flags Great America. It opened right on time and ran reliably from Day One. I just hope Univeral has somethign built into their contract where they get some kind of compensation/discount for this fiasco.

I wonder what the contract was and if Universal is going to sue. Can't be good having your major new attraction still not open during your busy season.

Universal can look at it this way, it was not open during their busy season so hopefully it will open during slow season and draw in crowds that are ususally not there...:goodvibes One postive way of looking at it...

Kingda KA (Six Flags Great Adventure) has had some terrible run times as well. In one season, it was just a pretty decoration for all to view.

I agree with you there. The media made such hype about it but at least half the time it was down. Tallest, fastest. blah, blah, blah.... We were just there on Mother's Day and it was down and it's been there for a few years now. It also wins the award for most unreliable. ;)

Agree - But I do have to say that I got to ride it ONCE, lol! It was hands down probably one of the best coaster's ever!! It's short, but man oh man it was awesome!

Dragster, at Cedar Point, is even better.
