He was also an incredible businessman.....created an empire, built on a laid-back lifestyle.A unique performer. He created sort of a lifestyle from his works over the years. Enjoyable music. RIP
Listening now.
The beauty is he only had 1 hit record but has been consistently putting out new music from the late 70s on. I think my last purchase was recorded in 2019.I don't know any of his songs other than 'Margaritaville,' I'm ashamed to say. On really snowy and miserable days, one of my local radio stations would play it for everyone who was snowed in and longing for better weather. RIP.
I'm a professor and when I think about the music my students listen to, lots of stuff that has so many strains of negativity, violence, and bad decision making (not to sound like a fuddy duddy) and then you have someone like Buffett who just liked a good time, a joint, and a stiff drink. There was a reason why his audience at concerts skewed older, he was a throwback to an earlier, gentler era; no moshing, no screaming, just fun times. My world was better because of Jimmy Buffett.
You know …I’ve got just enough tequila left in a bottle and a couple limes. Thanks for the reminder!
And yet if you listen to his music he was so much more than that. Lots of family values interspersed throughout. And while he is associated with the party life he enjoyed life on a far less superficial levelI'm a professor and when I think about the music my students listen to, lots of stuff that has so many strains of negativity, violence, and bad decision making (not to sound like a fuddy duddy) and then you have someone like Buffett who just liked a good time, a joint, and a stiff drink.
