Hey all! I hope you don't mind me asking a question of all of you.

I am a straight, married woman. My best friend is a gay male. Recently, he gave me an old ring of his that I always admired. Basically, it is a silver band with dragon designs on it (gotten at the Rennaisance Festival). The only finger it fits on is my right pointer finger. I've been wearing it for a couple of months now.

Just tonight, my neighbor/"friend" asked me why I wear it on that finger. My simple answer was "because it's the only finger it fits on". Her reply was "You know that means your a lesbian". Ok, whatever. I had never heard this before, and even if it does and people think that, so be it...they can think whatever they want.

But it just got me curious...is that a symbol of being a lesbian? I was planning to ask my BFF, but he works nights, so I probably won't even have a chance to talk to him until the weekend, by which time I will have forgotten all about it. ;)

My husband's a jeweler and he's never mentioned that. When he's done commitment/wedding rings for gay or lesbian couples, they are worn on the ring finger of the left hand.

There IS a little movement afoot in the jewelry world for women who buy themselves a big ole diamond or other flashy rock, to wear it on the ring finger of the right hand. The thinking there is a woman's left hand rocks the cradle but her right hand rocks the world...

Mostly, people who like rings just wear'em on whatever finger is most comfortable and that they think looks the best.:goodvibes

I have never heard that, either. Huh.

I used to wear a ring from my grandmother on that finger, but it got too tight. I do wear a ring on the index finger of my left hand, but that's not the issue, is it? :rotfl2:

Ahhh, lesbian here and I've never heard of that. Too funny! :lmao: My middle finger is the only finger I DON'T wear a ring!! I have a thumb ring, pinkie ring, my engagement ring and occassionally I wear a ring on my pointer finger. How funny, I NEVER wear a ring on my middle finger!!! Your safe! ;)

I'm also a straigh woman, but never heard that before. Before I was maried I NEVER wore a ring on my left ring finger.....that was reserved for my wedding ring. I DID wear it on my right ring finger.

Christy....LOL..."Lesbian Here" LOL!!!

Thanks for your input, everyone! My neighbor is not exactly known as the "brightest bulb in the pack", so I was just curious. :) I even told her that I was sitting at Sunday brunch this past weekend with my bff, his partner, and 2 of their friends (also a gay couple...one of which I also know), and NONE of them said anything to me about it. If it was a commonly known thing, I am certain my bff would have made some kind of comment about it by now, because that's just the way he is. :rotfl:

I'm not a lesbian (obviously duh, I have no power tools *kidding*) but I've never heard of anything like that. It's pretty funny though, what people think out there huh?

Remember way back when, when the whole earring for guys craze was going on? Right was gay, left was straight, both were....well we didn't know because the time came where any guy had both ears pierced and confused everybody. :rotfl: I remember my buddies in highschool saying, Right was wrong, Left was right. :rotfl:

Mark, I SO remember that! :lmao:

As far as I know there's only one thing that makes you a tried and true lesbian

I've never heard of anything like that. I wear my wedding ring on my left ring finger and no other rings at all. (At least that's where I try to wear it. Sometimes it's on my left thumb because I haven't fully gotten used to it yet -- after 5.5 years)

:rotfl::goodvibes:rotfl: But do you drive a Subaru, Dear?

Not anymore...when we got together, my DW had a Subaru, but, we just traded it in this summer. Now that the snow has hit, we miss it, but, we don't miss the maintenance costs.

LOL no, does a two door Honda Civic count? Can I be an honorary Lesbian?

Around where I live that car would mark you as a gay male, which you actually are, so, I don't know about honorary Lesbian status....:rotfl:

One of the charity events I used to do named an Honorary Lesbian every year. It was awarded to the outstanding straight girl on the committee. I won it one year. :goodvibes

Yet another lesbian (two in fact) who've never heard of that.

We wear our wedding rings on our middle left fingers.

I wear any other ring I please, on any other finger I choose. :confused3

Add me to the list of lesbians that has never heard of that.
